It means he sat down at the same table as me as I was having a quick half after traipsing round Covent Garden, the Coal Hole was his local there.  We exchanged a few words.  Richard Burton wanted a seat too but I told him to get lost, there weren't enough stools.

:D brilliant

I appeared, along with one Graeme Alderson with the legendary Trevor and Simon in a comedy sketch on saturday morning kids show Going Live. They were fairly good sorts as I remember.

That was climbing related though fatboy!

(It was on the wall used for the Bendcrete Olympia Open 1990)

I was present at the modest champagne reception that was held at the University of Manchester's physics department for Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov the day they won the Nobel Prize for the discovery of graphene.

The following week I attended a lecture given by Andre and on the same day I even held the door open for him...  :dance1:

I got a lift with Refused in their tour bus in the mid 90s. Sat on the floor in the back and read through their collection of punk fanzines for 10 hours. Drove the bus for the last 2 hours.

Not really sure that I should be admitting to this but I am distantly (though not as distantly as one would like) related to Danny Dyer.

The best I can muster is my wife’s grandfather was the captain of England and the British Lions (I think they were officially the British Isles Team then) and is on the Twickenham Wall of Fame. My side of the family is less impressive…..

I would argue "my wife" is a less tenuous connection than just "someone I know"....

If it's just me, then Richard Griffiths once told me to,"Fuck off you little shit" when I asked him for his autograph on platform three of Coventry Railway Station. In his limited defence, he had had to climb the stairs to get over the tracks so was a little out of breath and somewhat red faced.

I was best man at the wedding of the great-granddaughter of Captain Oates. Mind you some someone on here actually married her so I guess he beats me  ;)

I had the pleasure of serving Jonathan Edwards of hop, skip and jump fame when I worked at Cotswolds in Keswick. I also served some bloke off Emmerdale Farm when I managed the White Stuff shop in Keswick. Carl King apparently.

I threw a snow ball at Sir Chris Bonnington when I was a young lad.

And I had a coffee with Johnny Dawes once, and some bloke called Tim Carruthers was there too!

I once shook Gordon Burns' hand. If you don't live in the north west you won't know what that means. If you do live in the north west, pick your jaw up off the floor.

I once saw Geoff Capes in his pyjamas (it was during a fire alarm in the middle of the night at a Staffordshire hotel).
I spent Christmas Day in the pub with Rhys Ifans
I gave Johnny Marr a light in the Hacienda, I didn't have a clue who he was (I don't think he knew who I was either).

A couple more solid gold anecdotes like these and I'll have enough for an autobiography.

Now that is a good tick right there.

I once went drinking with two of voodoo glow skulls, when their gig was canceled and me and my mate randomly bumped into them in the pub. They overheard us saying we were gutted to have missed the show and we ended up spending the evening doing a tour of the Edinburgh punk and rock pubs with them. Was a nice consolation and the sax player gave me his (tour)hoody at the end of the evening :)

I didn't post this earlier on cos it felt too serious for this thread :D

Anyway, back on track, I once refused marti pello's autograph ( needless to say also pizzaland related )

I was in the first selection process when they were looking for someone to play Harry Potter.

This was mostly based on how you looked in primary school  :geek:

The daughter of captain Picard once fostered my half-brother when he was in care!

I was nearly on American TV because I was in a shopping mall at Xmas and they wanted some brits on saying how good the shopping was. They couldn't pronounce my name so my 'interview' was cut out by my dad and bro made it on  :whatever:

Jeru Tha Damaja and I had a long chat at his gig in Derby about my then-broken arm which was in a sling.

Derren Brown hypnotised my sister on stage in London.

On the way to Sardinia I queued up behind Chesney Hawkes in the Upper Crust in Gatwick airport.
