You fuckin pikey ;)Too right! I used to be a proper pikey master!
Anyone caught (& / or eaten) Zander? Never had the pleasure.

Those brown trout are brilliant. Where abouts did you get the one in the city ? Have you ever caught them on the fly in the city centre ?

Wander over this bridge on my lunch breaks. There's a couple of massive Barbel lie up on the upstream side. Need to start feeding them up and then get in there. Is there access a little way downstream then?
Fatneck's been avoiding the real challenge in his life (the cave) by fishing on the Orme and bagging 4 mackerel the other night I hear. I could understand if it was spinning between redpoint attempts on the big link but it's not.
Get yourself out Chris and crush that east coast mackerel scene!
Dug out my old fly tying kit last night. Wonder if I'm living life in reverse.
Mr Starfish, I'm glad to see it! What did you take them on out of interest? Hopefully will make it out to Ladybower in the next few weeks. Incidentally how much is a day ticket? Brenig is 17 pounds stirling which seems something of a dramatic increase compared to a decade ago.
The other took a very fast dog nobbler in the shallows.
Full day at Ladybower is £12.80, from 2pm is £8.80. Evenings are best as you'd expect, so the afternoon ticket is good value.

Aggghhhh! My eyes! You heathen! ;)
bring on the dog nobblersIf I had a penny for every time i found myself saying that! "There's dog a'ripe for nobblin', friends, let us bring out the dog nobblers!" It's a stock phrase around these parts.
I suspect this is what bouldering beta looks like to "normos".
You put your left foot here, your right hand there, in out, in out shake the lactic pump out
Underground good work! I gave a away a lot of my materials the other night to my boss' father to tie me a new box of buzzers. Would have saved them for you had I have known (I owe you one from way back mate!).Aaah! Would have come in useful too, never mind youth :) I was pondering that one from way back t'other day whilst lamenting the distinct overburden of books in the house, and reckoning i really need a shitload more shelves sorting ASAP... ;D
so told them that I had nothing on my person , but did have a "fucking big trout in the car".Lagers you are a true genius
Idiot was in possession
:(
I was expecting you to have posted pics by now in the food thread of what you did w/ that fine trout.
Idiot was in possession
How unprofessional; should've stashed it in his ass ::)
There's a robotic fish jumping out the water behind you in that last pic.
Sheaf trout.... at almost 1.5 pounds.
Yeah. I wasnt expecting anything like that size. It was from the section just up from the point where the river disappears underground and under the city centre.

By that little concrete weir thing with the metal ladder, or further down towards the "cage"? I've had some good sport fly fishing the upstream side of the weir this year - plenty of room for the back cast when kneeling on the weir.
If you go upstream from the ladder thing to the road with the weir above it, then walk round the corner to the auto repair centre and (with difficulty) fish over the metal fence . It was a struggle to land it. Lucky we had a long net handle.
The other 4 were from just above the ladder and weir you mentioned.

Is there some strange law that means that things stuck up your arse-hole don't belong to you?

When was the last time you saw a policeman conduct an internal cavity search in a pub carpark?
Didn't finish that last post...
I'd avoided fishing through/over the fence coz of the obvious difficulty of landing/returning fish.
Good effort for persevering with over-the fence tactics
Ive just seen your blog. I'm off work 'til 14 sept if you need any camera help with you urban trout fishing film. In fact, Ive got a camcorder and tripod too.
Off on a charter boat trip on saturday with my boss.
Hunting's hunting.
Why split hairs?
I'm vegetarian, but I eat fish. I also eat duck. Well, they're almost fish aren't they!
I hope you're not going to extrapolate that it's OK to torture animals as long as you eat them afterwards?
I recall Skate being disgusting.
Anyone else doing much sea fishing at the moment? I'm hankering for a juicy bass.
Any you guys eating those Rays? I recall Skate being disgusting.
Did you ask if scallops were hand dived?? Although there is no way to prove they are. it's always good to ask.
My rod has been dusted off of late. Had a couple of sessions trying my luck in the murky depths of the Bristol Channel, but no joy yet. What bait have you been using Tom? I've been trying mackerel harvested from the Devon seas, but haven't had a single bite yet. Any other ideas?
I managed to catch a grey mullet off Berry Head by foul hooking it and pulling it in backwards. Didn't think much to its eating credentials though.
Also, there's a (light-hearted by his standards) article (http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2009/aug/22/george-monbiot-fishing) by George Monbiot. Got me psyched. Anyone got a kayak going cheap?
From what I’ve read it’s one of those fish (the other notable example being Dover Sole) which benefits from being slightly less fresh. Odd as it may seem it’s best to leave it in the fridge for maybe two days before eating.
I can tell you from experience that being stung by a weever is tantamount to mutilating your genitals.
Genius! Musical credits?
Very sweet!
After yesterdays excitement stalking trout, Lagers Jr got me out of bed at 7am for some more urban adventuring. The result was her biggest trout so far.

Where you are I'm sure you can fish any tide. Might even be some nice deep channels you can cast into that you wouldn't be able to reach at high tide. My brother up in Townsville does OK fishing up there regardless of tide, but I think inside the GBR tides are considerably smaller.
Do let us know how that tasted BB! Delightful I'm sure?
Can't believe you can 15c per litre off fuel when you buy 2 cases of VB.
Sounds great eating BB! Similar profile to a mackerel (fought well I bet!?) with a salmon-like head eh.
We've been hitting the night scene hard over here of late.

Honestly mate, I don't think I've ever seen that much braid leave the reel in such a short space of time! I thought I'd hooked something truly enormous. Apparently, salmon aren't renowned fighters either! By all accounts, tailor, kingfish and school sharks go much better. We've been hitting the night scene hard over here of late.
I'm really lucky here as the beach is floodlit so no need for a headtorch. Night fishing is definitely the way forward though.
I can't view the pictures from work, but will definitely check them out when I get home.
Bumpede into my old fishing mate on sat,he'd been to france.had the lake record at 53lb and a 48lb cat ! Said the cat fucking killed him.

That sounds like a night out in Swindon, you should be used to that ;)
Stop it. I'm from Swindon.

Looking forward to hearing about this! Are you using Flourocarbon as a main line? I'm assuming so as I'm also assuming you'd be using some kind of wire trace?
Make sure you get photos BB!
I'm still dissapointed this isn't quality fisting pics
Looks like Jabba the cod.Or Codzilla
The cod have started to arrive in the Mersey so should be getting out soon...
Stop it. I'm from Swindon.
Get out while you still can! I knew Swindon was a bit shit, but moving somewhere nice has made me realise just how soul-destroyingly awful it truly is.
WMD fishing well? Had a bit of an urge to get down there the other day, I live within walking distance...
a dawn tench session...
Forgot to mention, the Jury is still out on weather its a bronze or a dusky whaler shark.
Fishing bloopers...
Fishing Fail (Full) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVwZ7Ymh3mo#)
Maybe I need to cast a bit further...
I guess not casting a shadow is an advantage for fishing.
Having flashbacks to my youth now as spending every evening making up rigs and reading fishing magazines.
Any tips on rigs for Mackerel from the shore? Have yet to succeed in catching any seafish without the aid of a boat...
According to the worldseafishing.com forum they are showing on the Clyde (http://www.worldseafishing.com/forums/showthread.php/1170682-Kayak-monday-The-clyde-estuary)...

I want to plan a day charter trip departing from Birkenhead Priory Wharf to Liverpool Bay this coming summer. Absolutely unreal sport out there. If anybody else is keen (JB, Lagers, Swilson etc etc), holla if you're keen.
Sadly a long way from us! mackerel are a bit loathe to use the megabus to get across to the Forth and usually travel round the bottom and up.

Will start to make some noises re dates this coming week. Thinking 12 hour trip departing from either Liverpool or Priory Wharf, Birkenhead in Wirral.
BB, please can we trade lives? Thanks!
Largers?
No idea of places and I think it's a 9 hour trip. Will give the guy a ring tomorrow...
Otter and I have got a day on the Derbyshire Wye a week on Sunday
Afternoon rod fettlers,
Anyone have any knowledge on Seahouses/Beadnell area (Northumberland coast)? Will have a chance for a quick session end of this month, and have read it's worth a go spinning there, keen to dust off the plugs and have a bass session, waste of time?
I'd been meaning to post this for a while to see what the UKB collective thought. One of my best mates wrestled this monster out the water just after Christmas last year, 27.05lbs!

WTF, looks rather like you're actually having a summer over in the Wirral?
Thats quite a big fish.
In conclusion I propose that we refloat the ide early August.
Really enjoying the fishing at the moment!
Pictures to follow
Brilliant stuff BB! That carp was in great condition, I assume no one really fishes for them? Do they get much bigger than that?
BB, that's an insane tale! Have small Bull Sharks been caught in the area before?
had a pesky heron for company all afternoon trying to steal fish off the hook!
any method trout fishing
I used a small dexter wedge on a light spinning rod,
I'm back in the office now sat behind my computer thinking about being back on the river bank :'(
We are going in the camper and starting on the south coast somewhere around Lulworth for a bit of sea fishing and a boat trip
where were them Tench from? I had a similar number on Wed night but only up to about 1lb.
Nice, that's a loooong trout.
Nice, that's a loooong trout.
I'm hoping it's skinny due to temporary lack of food rather than it being an old dear on the way out
it did seem in very good condition apart from its girth
I noticed that Barlow Fisheries have given over one of their trout lakes to become a "specimen carp" lake. didn't see any action when I walked past
Barlow seem to have upped their stocking game on the trout lakes. I took the foolish/exciting step of using the place to find out how I could cope with bigger fish on a tenkara rod. 2.5 lb was just about doable (4lb line), but I felt that I was having to overplay them, leaving very tired fish by the end of the fight - took ages for them to recover.
hooked a very lively fish - probably similar size to others I landed; and was unsurprised when it broke me off on a hard run.
on heavier line I'd be concerned about the rod breaking before the line...
I went back to using a reel for the rest of the session
it was interesting to see how tenkara worked on small stillwater - if there were no fish bigger than 2lb, I'd definitely do it some more

I know very little about carp fishing but learning and absolutely nothing about catfish.

Which trout lake? The bottom one? I spent a lot of time at Barlow when I was a kid, I even did my two week work experience there. I remember the bottom trout lake had some very big carp in, including some monster grass carp. Be interesting to know how big they actually were/are.
@Rob - Nice trout, where did it come from? Kind of assuming some urban Sheffield location?
nice one Fatneck
I added roach to my tenkara species count last night

the youngest loves fishing. He hasnt caught a barbel yet either.
getting pissed off with all the rats
yeah, free fishing
Its a date.
the best of tonight's haul
8lb 4oz Don barbel - I watched it move in and pick up the meat. Fuck climbing, this is where the big thrills are at.
I HEAR YA! #SACKCLIMBINGSMASHFISHING
Bloody good effort, I hope you get a Don double.
Grassholme Resevoir which offers any method trout fishing at a very reasonable price (£13 after 2.30 for four fish). Bailiffs were dubious of my methods which made catching my limit (two rainbows and 2 blue trout) in an hour all the sweeter :) By the time I'd packed up, all the locals were spinning where I'd been fishing!
Only fished Grassholme but have fished it quite a lot. Lots of people leger here and seem.to catch but I would recommend float fishing worms and sweetcorn. If you want to leger, get hold of some floating PowerBait and use it to pop up yer worms. If spinning I'd opt for small spinners and light line - great fun! I'm up there over Easter weekend and planning to try out some soft plastics....
had to stop climbing this morning due to toe pain, so had a quick hour and a half fishingWell psyched, Thursday evening I think.
had a couple of these little fellas - gold and green perfection in miniature

Bump!
The munchkin caught this (https://www.instagram.com/p/B1tMUVhDiuF/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link) whilst camping over the weekend, he was suitably delighted!
How are the pike flies working for you Lagers?
Is that in UK?
