Good call BB :)

Best of a nice bag of fish from last night at Lingmere was this baby...

And at the risk of upsetting Lagers, caught quite a few of these babies...

Just so BB doesn't think we never get any decent fish from the shore in the UK, here's a couple of pics of the stamp of Smooth Hounds coming out at New Brighton beach at the moment...

Very psyched to get out there but it's a difficult and dangerous mark to fish...

Nice fatneck! Those little barble belong on the just for magpie thread! too cute...err..well maybe just to us fishos!

I'm all about dangerous marks at the moment. Sydney rock fishing is apparently the most dangerous sport in the world, but I'm loving the exhileration, the variety of species and best of all the dolphins and whales that swim past.

now, here's my "problem"

I have this coming Monday off - whole day dedicated to me time

I can't chose between another day on The Wye chasing wild browns and rainbows with the odd stocked brown (likely to have the whole beat to myself!) or a day at Pennine Trout Fishery or similar with a chance of getting a farmed double figure monster and average size around 4lb

The Wye is likely to be in good nick and probably the clearest water for months as the rain fucks off

but a double figure trout...

Sounds a bit like: 'should I go onsighting at Chee tor, or redpointing at Horseshoe?' Does that help?

I ought to add that Mrs Starfish likes it when I bring fish home - the trout brothel is likely to result in 3 fish at least 4 lb each - the painfully beautiful Wye will likely result in 2 fish of 2lb each which taste unique (the wild ones) due to an untainted diet from one of the most life rich rivers in the country

climbing analogies do not help, since I can't do any and can't remember what it used to be like :selfpity:

having said that, I do remember that numbers/grades mean little compared to quality - and quality is increased by catching good conditions

I see that now, just had to say it out loud to realise

besides, if I'm going to a trout brothel, it should be while teaching one of the kids

Correct choice. I fish the aln which is about the same size as the Wye, maybe a bit bigger. Totally wild river though where you have to wade upstream all the way as the banks are so overgrown, feels like proper mr Crabtree. I have even seen otters a couple of times. wild and stocked brownies upto 4lbs but usually 1lb. Taste divine.

Also goto chatton fishery and pull out big rainbows, fun but in a Mcdonalds way.

My Aln ticket also only costs
£50 a season where as Chatton is £15 for a few hours.

I recently gave away a big box of all my fly tying materials. I wish I hadn't, they should have been donated here. Funny that you mention Pennine Lagers, I might be off up that way in a couple of weeks. Some absolute monsters in there! Incidentally, have you ever fished Raygill in Skipton? The quarried lake is superb and you can these huge missiles crusing around when it's hot. It's amusing how wise the bigger fish are and you can often see a dry fly perched on top of them during the dusk feeding frenzy being casually ignored. Fantastic fishery though!

my Wye day was great

no proper hatches, but still caught on drys and nymphs

4 rainbows (suspect that 2 of those may have been the same fish) and something like 14 browns

again, lost loads and missed a lot of takes

took some self timer photos this time, so when I've cropped off the fat bald bloke's stupid grinning head, I'll post a couple of pics of Wye fish for those interested in markings

Effort Lagers!!

Had a dawn session at scally central (Newsham Park) on Sunday. Saw a car get set on fire and was verbally abused by angry carping youths (all before 6am!) but that aside managed a decent bag of skimmers. Going to do the same before work tomorrow so will try and get some half decent pics!

Well lads, the wind was too strong to head out to the reef during my recent trip to Cairns, so I fished the estuary using light gear and surface poppers for giant trevally. I'm pleased to say that we got four of them and lost a good queenfish. Biggest was only about 4-5lb, but my God, they went hard on light gear. The missus even got one! Pictures to follow.
