yes, fly only, but pretty much any fly is allowed - barbless obviously

for the catch and returns - no fish that are being returned are to be weighed or photographed, ideally unhook them whilst still in the net - the quality of the fish is amazing and rules about the care of them probably helps a lot

Ok, so last year we never got round to booking a sea fishing trip aboard Discovery and we've left it a bit late to get any weekends before September. However fishing for Tope, Smoothhound etc does continue into September and they have weekends available!

If I can get 5 people off here, I can get another four locally and I'd be happy to pay the deposit up front thereby securing the boat for that date meaning we could ask them to accommodate the type of fishing we want to do.

Off the top of my head, we'd be looking at about £30 a head but I can check this and get back to people if need be.

I can't do the weekend of the 20th and Discovery have the following dates available at the time of writing...

7th, 8th, 29th and 30th

Hit me up fisher folk...

For some added psyche, here's a recent report...

Ah well eh... Just booked myself a deep water Spurdog/Tope/Pollock trip out of Holyhead on confirmed nutter, Gethyn Owen's My Way for August.

Went to a lovely venue near me on Friday and had a great big bag of smelly bream and tench topped off with a couple of magnificent Crucians...

Lovely stuff...

Certainly not quality pictures and in overall terms not quality/big fish but I've just started fishing again after 25 years and I just wanted to share the Psyche.

Went on holiday to the Lakes and Scotland, there was fishing onsite so it seemed rude not to, caught a lot of Jacks and this little beauty, only 4lbs but we had a great scrap on a light spinning rod. I'd never caught Pike before so quite happy with it.

Also caught a huge Perch but in the pouring rain and I couldn't unlock my phone screen.  No, honestly...

So then we came home and I decided to give it a go locally with the whimsical notion of catching the six other species I'd never managed previously.

First up was a Tench, not this actual one, this was a few days later and a pound or so bigger

next a proper Bream, rather than the little skimmers that succumb all too easily once hooked (terrible photo sorry, over exposed, the fish moved and the camera lens didn't fully open)

Also caught a Rudd that day but didn't photograph it so here's a decent Roach instead

Next up a Crucian, small (1lb) but perfect

Then after walking past a swim thinking "that looks a likely Barbel spot" too many times I eventually fished it and hey presto, only a baby at 2lb 9oz, and about half the size of the one I lost, but a Barbel nonetheless

So that just left a Chub, a bit of research suggested Cheesepaste so I made some up and within seconds of my first cast using it I had a 12oz Chub on the bank. Then two days later I had a nice brace, the first about 1.5lb then this one tipped the scales at just over 2lb.

Quite happy with that lot for a few weeks effort, especially as I was told today that the water's not been fishing at all well lately. Might go after a decent Carp next, a PB of 6lb 10oz to beat, it's very possible and I'd be well happy with something that size.

A few of the nicer looking carp I've had this summer. All around the 17lb mark. Off to the River Wye this weekend for some barbel fishing, then carp fishing in France in a couple of weeks, if all goes to plan I'll have some pics of some monsters to post soon :)

If anyone goes to centre parcs sherwood with the family I very much recommend taking your fishing gear. I had 25 double figure carp over three evening sessions. Unbelieveable fishing.
Nearly all on freelined breadflake off the top. I'll try to get the pics on here soon.
Incredibly well stocked lakes and hardly anyone fishes them.

Had some cracking barbel and chub out of the Wye this weekend. I'll get some pics posted this evening.

I'm back in the office now sat behind my computer thinking about being back on the river bank  :'(

Me too.

Met up with fatneck on Saturday, slow day but it finished with a nice pair of Chub.  Unfortunately they really didn't want to be photographed, lively little things.

@Jim - good effort mate! I remember heading to a center parks type place in the Lake District years ago and bagging some great carp! Surface fishing is also ace!

@Will - looking forward to the pictures dude and I feel your pain...

@Ian - was great to hook up! I did manage a couple of photos;

A lovely crucian...

And this chub, the biggest of my pair!

A few snaps from an absolutely brilliant weekend fishing on the Wye. We had 18 barbel between the 3 of us, some 4 and 5lb chub as well. Check out my Flickr for a few more snaps.

Good fish!

Considering a Wye trip lads - where did you stay/fish? Check Peter Drennans skills:

I usually fish Dove/Upper Trent, though leaving it now until rains flush out the dead weed.

Cheers.

We fished the Sugwas Pool stretch, my mate booked tickets through the Usk and Wye Foundation at £20 a day. The river was extremely low and fishing was hard work in the day, as soon as the light faded it came to life. All 3 of us got snapped off on 10lb Fluoro Carbon leaders! I was snapped on my last cast of the trip, felt like a very big fish compared to the others that I hooked.

I think I've got the barbel bug now!

Yeah, they're great value, and Wye fish seem to have a rep for being the hardest fighters of the lot.

If you fancy an Dove/Upper Trent barbel session let me know. Been over with Richard at Billy Clarkes a few times - and learned a lot! What he don't know ain't worth knowing.

I would definitely be interested in barbel trip sometime. Let me know when you might be heading next and we'll see if we can sort something.

I have a ticket for Ravensfield Fishery, they have a big strectch of the Don at Kilnhurst. I think I might put a few sessions in down there as the barbel have reached double figures in that stretch now. Getting a double figure barbel out of the Don would be pretty special.

Apologies for another non-quality image, forgot my camera today.

Took a :worms: and went fishing all the snags on my local looking for big Perch today, it kinda worked...

*Only had one small Perch but also a lovely 1lb Rudd (and a 3" gudgeon!)
