5lb monster from my only fluff chucking session of the year. I went to Penine Trout Brothel. had a dozen fish, mostly around 3lb. everyone else caught more than me

their fish fight well



fished buzzers under a CDC - experimenting with tying them on in-line using palomar knots, it's worked well for me and my shoddy casting technique and difficulty with finger co-ordination

start with one buzzer on the tip and as my casting became less shit I added one (between CDC and end buzzer) and then another

used a bit of light line to pull the loop of leader through the hook eye before tying a palomar

Just to clarify - in effect you're eliminating the need for an actual dropper? This would have the benefit of meaning there's nothing to tangle around the main line?

yep

similar to a Hopper Dropper set up, but I recon mine would cope better with 2 fish on - no proof of this

you don't feel like your float fishing with a bright orange bung and there's always the possibility of getting one on the floater

So Ladybower opens to anglers on the 28th Feb and I'm keen to get out on a boat. Anyone fancy it? Not necessarily on the 28th but any time/date around then...

I'm keen. Not fished Ladybower for years.

Not too fussed about a boat, makes the day really expensive and you always end up casting back towards the bank anyway.

If there are a few of us it would probably be better to fish from the bank for the banter and general piss taking.

A great day was had by all on Saturday! Having changed the competition element from "most fish caught" to "biggest fish wins" I was a little disgruntled to catch the most fish but this was tempered by beating some far more experienced fly anglers

Semi-pro Si Jones won with the biggest fish. Mine was the moral victory though 

No plans for a summer match yet Gav but if I can manage to drag myself away from the fly fishing I would be keen and I would happily go to Loxley again...?
