Big Malc's weight routine
July 03, 2007, 01:08:09 pm
Hi,
Does anyone know what kind of a routine the big man used? I'm nursing an A2 injury at the moment(almost fully healed thanks to contrast baths) and was wondering apart from the Olympic style lifts that he said he used for all over power what other kinds of lifting did he do bench's/curls/presses  and were they always in the low-rep range anyone got any idea's?
cheers.

he was fond of the one where you have a leg and hand resting on the bench, the other foot on the ground by the side of the bench and reach down to a fully loaded dumb-bell with other hand, and pull this up tight to your chest (or in my case when i tried to repeat this try to lift it off the floor!)
good for pulling in hard - i guess it trains that action

I think he was also big on Deadlifts - there was an article knocking about somewhere that divulged some his weight training secrets - I'll have a look around on't net for it and report back if I find it.

just had a look at an old ote, classic one with richie on the cover, he recommended bicep curls, upright rows, bench press and laterral raises, 3sets 4-8 reps, as explosively as possible. weighted pulls 3-5 sets of 4-8reps. plus some leg raises and abdo crunches.

Good find, that vid.  I have no idea why it's got subtitles.  Is it aimed at Americans or something?

The Jared Roth pro tip is laughable.
To get 'sick' finger strength you should hang off crimps one handed.
Surely a pre-requisite for this excercise is 'sick' fingerstrength.

the jerry protip is dynamite - him in aviators and a massive gold chain like he's the mayor of crimptown. can't remember what the tip was about but thats not the point.

Worse than his 'sick' tips is the quite frankly sick (non 'sick') music in the background. Jerry and Malc's sections are obviously the best. Moffat's crowning glory.

jerry's is terrible. he waffles on for what seems like an hour about nothing.
obviously him crushing at the end is pretty good, something in vegas if I remember rightly?

i agree, jerry prattles on for an eternity about being psyched, why say in one word that you can say in a thousand superfluous one's. and that problem he does looks log.
malc's a wad.

many trainers suggest not to crimp while deadhanging, because the full crimped position creates a mechanical lock that take something away from the real tendon effort, and that's why we crimp like hell when we're tired or close to falling.

I think our learned friend is suggesting that hangs using crimps don't improve open-handed strength, whereas training open handed improves open and crimped strength.
But correct me if I'm wrong Nibs.

which again is codswallop. strength develops overr specific ranges of movement, if you don't train a particular movement position its not going to get stronger. eg look at how my right leg is rapidly disappearing now that i'm not walking on it. where this open hand trains crimp strength bull shit comes from i don't know. where's dylan, he'll cite some referrences.

Metolius I think.  (See "Fun da mentals").
Training open handed is important, but not to the point of excluding everything else.  Did we not discuss this fairly recently?
