CrapAtalk makes it much easier to quote, embed etc. than viewing through a browser,

I'm guessing that this is relative to a browser on a tablet (I recall you saying that you've not used a PC for some time).

Perhaps the Tapatalk applicaiton differs on iOS but how do you write the BBCode for markup quickly are there short cut buttons?  There aren't any in the Android version so you have to delve into the hidden keyboard layers which have the special characters.

gives a much longer "timeline" than the 10, or so, "recent posts" on the front page; making it easier to pick up a thread that grabs your interest.

This is the "Unread Threads" option perhaps?  Thats also available in any browser via the Show unread posts since last visit. link.  Why regulars to the forum would bookmark or visit the front page I've no idea, but each to their own.

The front page is too slow to update/ over populated with old pinned posts.
To me, it would be more appealing if the ratio between new posts and pinned posts were reversed.

Not that I look at it but

can someone write a script that causes UKB to be delivered at variable speed (slider control from x1 to x999 speed), starting from a post in time of one's choosing?

a bit like retro gaming, but for watching the home page and reading stuff as it came up

maybe with a running karma report in the top corner
