La Machine
September 08, 2008, 04:02:11 pm
Went to see this spectacular event over the weekend with the kids and we really enjoyed it! I didn't expect to be so affected by it, but it was truly awesome and memorable sight. Worth every penny of the 1.5 million pounds it is alledged to have cost IMHO. Thousands of people of all ages, absolutely delighted, it was an amazing atmosphere!

Some photos from the beeb

La Princess was followed around by a twenty piece band in two's and three's on cherrypickers playing dramatic music that really heightened the sense of excitement that buzzed through the crowds.

This is probably the single best thing (the superlambananas being a close second) the council have managed to put on during this year of roadworks new build monstrosity culture.

That looks great. Why didn't I go? Was going to and then didn't. In a similar vein, anyone going to Font should go for the tour round the Jean Tinguely Cyclop sculpture just outside Milly la Foret. Twenty + metres high and full of clanking machinery, sound sculptures and dadaist artworks. Massive amounts of fun.

Amazing! I remember having a almost word for word rave about the last time this lot were in the UK...

Glad it was just as spectacular, sorry to have missed it. Keep sending these guys money, compared to most things the UK sorts out (dome etc) £1.5m is a BARGAIN!

Agree, this was ace.  Since then I've dreamt of Jimm'l Fixing It for me to drop water balloons from 25m up a crane onto a bunch of performers.

I'd heard the two guys who put on the Sultans elephant had fallen out prior to the event as ordinarily there'd be two components (elephant and puppet) making the whole thing more theatrical.

Still, the spider seemed to hold its own.

I enjoyed this greatly. The highpoint had to be the climax (excuse the pun) of the show whereby the spider shot its web load outside Lewis'. Reminiscent of a Peter North performance for those that know the great man.
