No, I've bought loads recently but I'm not sure what were 2010 releases.

John Grant's Queen of Denmark is great though.

Quite a vintage year for gigs/sets though.

1. Flaming Lips, Green Man Festival: joyous
2. Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Manchester: huge
3. Wilco, End of the Road: well, d'uh
4. Dinosaur Jr, Liverpool: weeks and weeks of tinnitus.
5. Phospherescent, End of the Road. Come to think of it, I think Phospherescent's Here's to Taking it Easy was 2010.

I got a lot of music this year, but none of it came out this year!

Actually I got at least two:

The new Bring Me the Horizon one (Sheffield teenybop Thrashcore): http://open.spotify.com/album/6PlQacVc09348OiGAHoEkt
The Kvelertak one (Norwegian thrashy hardcore): http://open.spotify.com/album/08d7MnYYp9OEsQ8GcnMHOn

oh and the new Maiden one, (but that's not very good) http://open.spotify.com/album/3CE0SB7URLI49lxJcykXUi

I'm a cheapskate and only buy old, generally second-hand albums.

Technically a reissue I suppose but I don't care.

1960/2010- Africa 50 years of music, 50 ans d'indépenances, 18cd box-set.

Gigs wise- Dinosaur jr, were tops as were Do, Make, Say, Think.

and 2011 starts off with Godspeed you black emperor, next week!

Didn't get Queen of Denmark though...

As in didn't buy it or didn't 'get it' - latter I'm guessing. He was very good live at the Green Man too.

You're in for a treat next week - where are they playing? Manchester was epic - 2 and a half hours, seven songs!

Biggest disappointment was Midlake Courage of Others: dreary, dreary, dreary!

Seeing them in Paris in one of the venues with the best sound, last time I went there I saw a double bill of Throbbing gristle and Pan sonic which was awesome.

Quite enjoyed the Midlake album. Think I'll give John Grant another go this evening.

I saw them early December with Falling Down - I think the UK leg of the tour has finished.

Bring Me the Horizon one (Sheffield teenybop Thrashcore)

can't seem to get excited about these guys
granted they make a good noise but I just find myself thinking about going and listening to some old In Flames....

Well, before I start with this year's album I'm going to mention an album from a band I only just found out about recently. The band is The Notwist and the Album, from 2003 but re-released this year is Neon Golden. I think this may turn out to be my all-time favourite album!

So, back to 2010:
1. LCD Soundsystem, This is Happening
2. Shady Bard, Trials
3. Yeaseyer, Odd Blood
4. The XX, The XX (Sorry, but it's great)
5. Emeralds, Does it look like I'm here?
6. Deftones, Diamond Eyes
7. The Hundred in the Hands, Self Titled.
8. Lower Dens, Twin-Hand Movement
9.  Midlake, The Courage of others
10. Them Crooked Vultures, Self Titled. (Although may technically be 2009, but I got it in 2010

Make of that what you will...

Biggest disappointment was Midlake Courage of Others: dreary, dreary, dreary!

Why were they such a disappointment? I hadn't heard of them before, but quite like the album. Played it to a mate at work and she thought it's was depressingly dull...maybe I like depressing music??

It is indeed. Generally a kinda mediocre year but the late triple of Siren / BSE / Break saved it. I was initially unsure about BSE's dnb / dubstep alternation but the dubstep is so strong it works, some of the best tracks in fact.

Midlake's previous album, The Trials of Van Occupanther, was sublime. Courage' was a big disappointment after that.

Good thread, keep them coming

Know there are some electronica fans on here somewhere so my single (from 2008, but discovered in 2010) is Trente Moller - Take Me Into Your Skin (on downtempo - minimal electronica)

The dubstep is fantastic, but I had to rearrange it so it isn't alternated - I just don't like the change in pace! Often I just want to listen to the dubstep or the drum and bass on the album, but never both. You heard the sampler tracks?
