I don't want to speak for Matt, he can do that plenty well himself....but I guess one arguable positive about this sort of development is a bit like F1 racing - yes, it's a bonkers waste of resources, but the grand scheme of things the benefits outweigh the costs (materials, tech development etc.).
Still, it's 140 tonnes of diesel THAT DOESN'T NEED BURNT. If all that funding, brain power and motivation was targeted at
actually solving the issues we face we would get to a better place much quicker than by "trickle down" theory.
That's 325 tonnes of c02, or about 160 x the annual allowance, per person, that we need to get back to a sensible level of C02 emissions.
So yeah, great that you've developed the tech. Now publish the designs and tech online, for free, and don't build the yachts. Only then will I give you praise for doing something that helps climate change.... Sorry if that sounds harsh, but it kind of sickens me that there are people so wealthy, and so blind to the excess that they are willing to consume so much more than their fair share, all the while we constantly juggle seeing family who live in other countries, forgoing holidays as we want to fly less. I know I'm still consuming more than my share, so we're all complicit in this mess.
Just put some bloody sails on it!
