Lovin both the new Slipknot album and also the Machine Head album, recommending both. :beer2:

on the slipknot album:
not a fan of devil and I or the negative one is the album more of the same or better than those tracks.

For me the drumming ruins devil and I. The double kicker over the chorus bothers me. I felt it was really unnecessary and stopped the flow of an otherwise decent song. I just could not get into negative one.

Never got on with Slipknot.

Enjoyed Unto the Locust, so will give the new one a go.

I've been getting into Iwrestledabearonce recently. Sort of tongue-in-cheek mathcorehipstergrind that seems to attractive the most rabid and juvenile Youtube comments aside from car videos  ::) Probably a love/hate thing but they keep me interested...

New singer has terrible dress sense and a great performance / voice, e.g. in this track...

( @ &t=15m30s as the auto-youtuber thing seems to fuck up time links? )

Some of the slipknot definitely has stone sour overtones like devil In I and negative one.  I like stone sour but am thankful that the album has both a mix of catchier stuff with good old noise.

I quite like the negative one - just like a nu-metal/thrash metal version of hip-hop and dance music mixed.

Edit: And therefore it actually sounds like the extra 16 members of the band are actually doing something for a change compared to most of the other tracks I've ever heard which sound like any normal 4-piece band could have done them.

Some of you might like this, like a heavier Mastadon. Sort of, sort of not.

I think I've reached the peak of my "brutal female vocalists" quest....

Grimy crusty doom metal? - check
Gorgeous elegant blonde Norwegian vocalist who was 17 years old at the time of recording? - check
Vocals like a yeti gargling with broken concrete? - check

(reunion show in 2009: )

Perfect stuff for the current weather :wall:

Just listening to Paradise Lost's The Plague Within after a tip off.  Pretty good, certainly a move in the right direction after some time lost in the wilderness.

A little more old skool: Dublin's finest at their glorious but tragically brief peak.

How did I not know of this thread?! Anyway... Anyone else preordered the new Sikth EP? They're doing a PledgeMusic crowdfunding thingy for it and I'm SO EXCITED. As my initial contribution to the thread, you may have this, which contains the most obscene technical death riffing I've ever encountered:

The Masterdon album from last year hasn't lasted at all well, in terms of wanting to continue to play it. Oh well.

I've slowly been ripping all my CDs onto a small hard drive for the trip and re-engaging some stuff I haven't played in many years. I think I've only just realised how good Black Sabbath were in the early days - there're some great tunes on Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. I bought it originally on vinyl from that postal club that used to be about where you got four free albums and then had to buy a full price one to get a half price one... and then left as soon as the commitment was up because it worked out dearer.

I'm a little miffed at the moment due to Coheed and Cambria playing a Neverender gig in the UK when Muenchener is over to climb - no consideration on there part at all.

Yeah, I think they peaked (at least temporarily) with Crack the Skye. That was SUCH a good record, it must have been really difficult to get back to recording and think "How do we follow that?".

For all those who find Dragged Into Sunlight etc a bit lightweight:

Goodbye speakers, ears, skull structural integrity etc.

Just ordered the CD....

Just listening to Slayer's newest offering, Relentless.  Pretty decent so far, if simply "more of Slayer".

Also been through my Machine Head back catalogue - enjoyed the lot, although Supercharger less so.

I have been playing the new bring me the horizon album but does not really fit in this thread really.

However I think the album is a great piece of pop/electronica with some heavier elements and I genuinely like the album but it is a very long way away from the earache records days.
If you loved pray for plagues this album is nothing like that track.

It is a lot less linkin park than Sempeternal.

Wow, they've changed their sound so much, I remember watching them at a pub in Hull and one of Oli's hair extensions fell out while doing a fine impression of Norma Jean
