Seeing SikTh on Saturday. Words can't describe how excited I am, I discovered them about 3 weeks after they split up, many years ago. The feeling of loss at never being able to see them live was genuinely pretty crushing, as I recall. Anyway, here we are, the best part of a decade later and they're back together recording great new music and touring. HAPPY DAYS :punk:

Those that suffer musical taste on trips will be aware of my penchant for drone/motorik/Krauktrock.

Saw Cavern of Antimatter last week, strongly recommended if you like that sort of thing. Forthcoming dates in Leeds, Bristol, Brighton, Barcelona (and Berlin of course)

Question for the old skool thrash metalheads: Is Pantera's Primal Concrete Sledge grossly underrated / underinfluential?? I always thought it was an amazing track at the time and I still hear little that is so relentlessly mechanically heavy. To me it's more "industrial metal" than, say, Ministry, Fear Factory, NIN at the time, but I never see it name-checked or mentioned...

The catchy chorus and stupid lyrics ruin that track for me. But I see what you mean with the industrial sound though, that verse riff is ace, actually sounds a bit like Meshuggah
Now I've wasted all morning listening to Pantera on youtube!

Not really a waste tho ;)

Apparently the track does get some acclaim... http://metalintheory.com/pantera-primal-concrete-sledge/

Some really good stuff on that website
As a result I've discovered 'Ozric Tentacles', I'd never heard of them before. Pretty full on jazz fusion/ space rock/ electronica ?!

Yeah, good call Dunc. I'd mostly ignored this thread, have I missed any more motorik gems or is it all thrash?

Ozrics were pretty popular in the nineties, when I was at school they were usually elevated onto the spinner racks in Our Price... a bit space jazz for me, but the new age crusties were well in to it.

No no, there's plenty of death, black, and grindcore too  ;D

I have been liking this a lot recently:

Well crafted, technically complex, and a great chorus.

Metallica's new album is awesome, some of the best they've done in years. This track especially is up there with my favourite Metallica songs...!  :punk:

Tis the season for black metal
I've recently discoverd Ulver - "mysterious, melancholic, eerie, and oddly tranquil."

Also enjoying the first couple of Emperor albums which are almost symphonic with the keyboard parts,
and of course Mayhem who are touring next year and playing their first album in full  :punk:

Spasm are OEF stalwarts it seems, and rightly so. They've matured nicely over the decade, especially dress sense:

I watched all of that and quite enjoyed it

But moving swiftly on.. I was listening to this other day and thought it was pretty fucking heavy for 1920 ish

Then listening to some old school British heavy metal this eve

Anyone going to tramlines

Oathbreaker headlining £2 entry

Also heavy music is in a really good place this year. Espcially hardcore
Code orange album is some thing special
Employed to serve album is amazing

Also anyone into droney stuff check out wear your wounds ( Jake from converge) side project. 15 years of work to make a raw emotional heavy piece of work. Giving up is probably my favourite track

Her voice is unbelievable and that album is pretty perfect.

Been getting right back into death metal, including hearty doses of techdeath, melodeath, deathcore and doomdeath, as it suits the weather my injured leg and my general mood. Favourites in rough order:

Enjoy :) And yes I bought all of these albums after trying them on Youtube.

I don't think I'll ever enjoy death metal, but that Cryptocracy certainly know how to open an album.  :punk:

I missed this at the time, but crikey it's good. Big concept album full of lovely, varied, heavy things. The vocalist is brilliant:
