I'd just like to say thank you to everyone who helped out last saturday night, off the top of my head:

Percy,Graeme, Ben, Mickey, Natalie

and to everyone who has visited/emailed, Sam, James, Matt, Dylan, Jon

Sorry if you helped out and ive missed you off, Ive been pretty out of it over the last week having sampled most pain relief options avaialable on the nhs. My leg has been fitted with an external fixator (WARNING: this photo may not be to everyones liking, http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i165/bennp2000/DSCF0113.jpg) and i'm back at home now, hobbling around a little with the aid of a couple of crutches.

Glad to hear they sorted you out, Paul! Sorry I couldn't get to see you last week, but I spoke to Sam and he gave me a progress report. I'm sure you already know this, but the biggest thank you must go to Natalie who was absolutely amazingly calm throughout the whole traumatic experience. Theres not many people who can keep their game together like she did when your partner is screaming on the floor in a broken heap! Maximum respect due.
All that remains is for you to heal up quick - I'm sure it won't take too long before you're back. Get well soon!

blimey. very sorry to hear about the accident paul. i presume you had it fixed at the northern? are you getting hydrotherapy? i presume you're getting some follow up physio?
best of luck with it all. i'm sure you'll be back within time. if there's any info you think i might be able to help with, obviously just ask.

Cheers everyone, I haven't a clue about hydrotherapy, they told me they had it but didn't mention me getting it, and theyve said I can only get the frame wet once a week.
Did you have one of these frames joe?
Got my first physio apointment next week so I guess i'll find out then after that i'm back the week after to have one of the wires (supposedly with an "olive" on it, whatever that means) "removed", which doesnt sound like fun...
I have to echo what Percy said: Nat did amazingly well and is continuing to do so currently.. when I get a bit more mobile i'll pop into the works.

There's basically 2 types of wire. One smooth and a uniform diameter, the other has an Olive. The olive is essentially a olive shaped thickened area about 5mm long. This allows compression or manipulation of a fracture fragment to improve the position.

Paul, it wasn't just Nat that did really well (although she was awesome). You did pretty damned well yourself, keeping it together until/while the paramedics did their thing.

I'm sure i'll be in again sometime soon, glad the chocs went down well.

If anyone is around tomorrow night (22nd) and fancies a drink (well a bit of a poncy drink), its Nat's birthday and she's got the upstairs room at Vodka Revolution at the top end of West/Devonshire street from 7pm onwards.

Sorry to hear about your accident, My dad had both his legs smashed in a motorcycle crash 10 years ago and he to was fitted with an Ilizarov Frame to stop his foot falling off. He had the same problem getting trousers to fit, he ended looking like a complete chav in a pair of those adidas trackie bottoms with the poppers all the way up the sides, but they were the only things he could get on.

Yeah I've got a pair of those to fit.... I also have a modded pair of jeans with a zip all the way up the inner leg (true full Monty style....), and a pair of the baggiest trouser imaginable, they have a 28" waist and a 24" (circumference) leg!!!

Some of the pictures on that website GCW posted earlier has some Ilizarov's fitted to motorcyclists and they look horrendous, full frames from foot to hip and horror stories about 2.5 years with them on....Thats enough to put me off ever wanting a bike.
