At least Bell Cheese is somewhat succint.

It may be more succinct but which would you rather name your child?

Whatever, it'll just end up as 'Sparrow'.

Pete Robins has just done a new line on the Ormes and he wants to call it 'Bell Cheese'. These wacky kids. ::)

sounds like a good name to me.

Just a minor, personal aesthetic point really.

I don't like really long names for boulder problems.

Hold on a minute, aren't you the guy who put up a new route next to Skidoo and called it Skidoo?  :-\   :devangel:

What's wrong with the name Bellcheese?

And since when has The Self-Appointed Grand-High Chancellor of British Bouldering been in a position to deny a first ascentionist the right to call their OWN problem their OWN name?

(We won't even talk about the renaming of Neil Dyers' trav on Sheep-pen to Ding Dongs' traverse: a name he did not provide...)

Tsk tsk!  Harumph!  Naughty-naughty!

Nice offensive post Paul, I can't tell you how impressed I am.

There's nothing wrong with the name per se, I just think it's wacky, for wacky's sake. He did it first, so he is allowed to name it whatever he wants, but that doesn't mean I am not allowed to express an opinion on whether it is a shit name, or not. I never said he couldn't give it a different name. When I wrote up the original news item on NWB he hadn't thought of a name (thus it went in as Organ Grinder Lefthand). I've been too busy to change it since, but have written it up as Bell Cheese in my report for Climber mag.

As for Ding Dong's traverse, not sure what you mean? Maybe you should write the next guide, eh Paul, you've obviously got a keener eye for detail than me.

Simon, Simon, Simon...  (Or should I say, Quickdraw-McGraw!?)

Only you etc..  Why is it so damn hard to pull your leg?

(vis-a-vis your report for Climber and the reporting of the real name...  Nice!)

(vis-a-vis me writing your guide for you, I rather circumcise myself with a blunt fork...)

(ps - I love you!)

But yes, where were we?  Ah, white hats!

Caught me at a bad moment, that's all. No harm done, bridge still intact.

Went over to have a go at TAOWHW today but persistent dampness prevented an attempt. Not a total waste of a day, as did a nice new thing between Fidget and Rise Of The Robots. About the same hard as Fidget, so F6C/E1 6b-ish. In line with current BMC pollicy it's called Six Syllables Or Less. Vid here

The good thing is that "Six Syllables or less" is..... 6 Syllables.
The video link isn't working.  Do I need to be more patient?

I have a feeling that Johnny Brown did this a few weeks ago.  I'll have to check your video, if it decides to work, for confirmation, but he definately did something in this vicinity.  I don't know if he'll want to face your wrath by retro-claiming it.

The video link works now. Climbers eh, just like busses, you wait around ten tousand years for one and then two show up in a week.

Yeah, I did something along those lines, can't remember what exactly though, the start certainly looks familiar/ similar. Perhaps 'Fool has a better memory. Good name.

As I remember it, Johnny Come Lately started as for Rise of the Robots and then gastoned the crack before matching it and pushing on into what was to become Six Syllables or Less.  The newest incarnation probably has more independent climbing and is worthy of a (fine and topical) name.  Don't quote me on any of this.

PS JBs addition is also worthwhile.  However I suspect we want to avoid a Salmonslabification of this fine piece of rock for the new guide.

No, I think I did that first then did the direct as per Jonboy. Without an independent finish they both fall into the category of 'messing about' for me.

Sounds like some good stuff. Any chance of a simple topo a la Gardoms? Or just a map with coloured splodges - that was really handy.

Short man's sequence fo y'all. Don't be put off by the wetstreak either - a good clean with a brush-in-a-sock and it was good to go.

Did Jess go and solo Knockin' on Heavens Door shortly after this photo was taken?

This problem is amazing, very good, very hard and just the right height. I reckon 7b+/V9,

After t'other day I'm revising it to a tough 7b/ V8. Its not quite as hard as Westside.

No Jess didn't make E9 history. She did keep prattling on about the 'great' climbing around Mottram though. You know they used to be in the same class at school? Fashion clearly forms its roots early on.

Just to be a grade bore. If it's 'not quite' as hard as Westside which is top end 7b+ (felt it to me anyway) might it not still be 7b+?
Hopefully I can find the answer to the above next time there's a dry weekend day.
