I thought I'd already posted about this, but can't seem to find it. Now all I need to do is remember what I thought I'd written...

I watched Synecdoche, NY a couple of weeks ago. Liked it. That whole play within a play (and then a play within a play within a play)  thing appeals to me.

Let The Right One In ... beautifully shot

I think they should make a coffee table book of the most interesting frames from the film. Could be a different take on the graphic novel.

Got Watchmen to watch tonight while babbysitting.

Don't expect too much. Or for it to follow the original story. Some good bits though. And PVC.

I think it was well cool as comic book films go. Entertaining, stylish, and a couple of really intriguing characters.

Thats a shame. I'll prob see it anyway, Marty being shit is bound to be better than 99% of all other films.

It has to be said that a fair number of people completely disagree with my opinions of films so you may like it.

I still think it's shit.

I don't think you should be banned, Nik at Work, or thrashed to within an inch of your life, or merely called names - just that you should never be aloud to grade a film.

1/10?   Fuck off.

You've got a pretty good list there and they'll keep you busy for some time yet.

This doesn't directly answer your question but what I did once I started running out of ideas of what to order I started checking lists like "100 best action movies" to find stuff I'd either never known about, forgotten about and missed or seen ages ago and would like to see again.

For example
Empires 500 greatest movies of all time

Doing this brought to my attention the works of Hayao Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli which made it worth while.

Enjoy.

Houd you're probably right, it isn't a 1 as that would be truly terrible on an epic scale. I'll up my score to 2/10.

I still think it is complete shit.

That's a great idea Platts, I'll check it out. So far not massively impressed with the Lovefilm website, I want it to do more Amazon like stuff, "you liked this so you'll probably like this..." recommendations etc. It may do this and I've not found it yet. District 9 is awesome, one of the few films I've seen in the cinema over the last couple of years.

  • "There's no cure for being a c#nt"
At 3.30am this morning I decided to accept the fact that I was losing my battle with insomnia. Ironically, a bit of go-ogling pointed me in the direction of Alex Rivera's Sleep Dealer.
A cracking bit of believable sci-fi. Most of it is in Mexican Spanish, so I watched it with subtitles, but this in no way detracted from getting sucked in to the plot. Nice steady paced story set in the context of the exploitation of Mexican people by the US and the way that the US conducts it's "anti-terror" wars (told you it was believable) in the near future. Not a big budget Hollywood spectacular by any means, but all the better for that (cost $2million).
I'll watch it again.

Recent views that I'd add word would be:

Let the right one in
Sideways
The Last King of Scotland
Juno

We've got District 9, 500 Days of Summer and Shifty due.

Also, have watched Flags of our Fathers, with Letters from Iwo Jima still to watch. But I have those on DVD so I'll lend you them.

Do not, repeat DO NOT see Clash of the Titans, even if Zeus commands you. Utter tripe of the highest order.

A mindless patsiche of Gladiator and Lord of the Rings with terrible scripting, awful acting, and no character development . How this got made I will never know. It's a complete  insult to the original.

It cost us nearly £30 for two to see too because of the Inflated price for '3D' and the 3D glasses stealth tax. I feel like I've been well and truly bummed.

I notice that all the big franchises like shrek and toy story are lining up new film for 3D too. Is this what we're coming to? CG + 3D = no need for good films?

Just go to independent cinemas like The Showroom (Sheffield) or The Corner House (Manchester) and check out the "World Cinema" offerings from the likes of Tartan.

On that note, went and saw Samson and Delilah last Friday.  I thought it was pretty dam good, very well acted (although there is little dialog for large parts of it).  No doubt quite true of some situations in the outback.  Definitely going to have to get the soundtrack ( ;) ).
