Do something hard for me on dartmoor again, not really felt the psyche since Devon Sent a couple years ago, but Squire's new stuff has stirred something. Will probably require learning to love saddle tor, but might have a look at James's new arete (Interstellar) at Bovey, or attempt jungle VIP again.
Did Weekend Warrior yesterday, it's not 8A, but was tricky for me, climbs brilliantly, and isn't really very eliminate.

... E4 on sight would be nice.
did Limbo Dancer today, but I'd downclimbed from the crux a few times in the past, and I had a mat, still scary though, not a boulder problem imo

Given the clusterfuck that was 2019 it might be worth getting a few aims down here...

Climbing
Start actually climbing again, as opposed to a handful of half-hearted sessions a year of the last couple of years....
Get bouldering back up to reasonable- ish standard... something 7C or above would be amazing.
A sport 8 would also be brilliant but I’d more than happily settle for 7c.
Do some trad, some steady miles on mid grade (E3/4?) territory would be grand. Taking in some new rock types and venues ideally, but even just reacquainting myself with the grit.

Life
Get a job or some sort of gainful employment that interests and inspires me, and gives me the flexibility to see my kids frequently (complication being they live on the Isle of Man and I don’t...). Huge salary would be nice....

Work out a balance that allows me to still be a dad whilst also carving out a new life.

Do more MTB.

Do more art/creative stuff.

Try some new things.

Stay happy.

I'd def be up for some spring trad. Happy to second anything, and doing some more E3 or an E4 would be a mini triumph in what could easily turn into a bit of a dud year...

You’ll be back up to 7C in no time Nik.

Alright, I sort of gave up climbing last year and with it all the associated stretching fingerboarding watching the diet and other jazz. Last few months I spent more time playing video games than in the last few years combined.

Aims:
1. Get fit again and lose those 7 non-climbing kilos.
2. Repeat some 7Bs before...
3. going to Font at Easter.
4. Ticking a new 7C by the end of the year.
5. Keep the wheels on the bus.

I fell off trackside yesterday. Twice. Even fell off strawberries. So am quite a way off the standard. And my weight has gone over an arbitrary threshold that I told myself some time ago “never again” so if not now then when.

Good luck with your 2020 aims dudes.

Yoss sounds good to me. Would be great to see you, and a bit of climbing would be a bonus.

You’ll be back up to 7C in no time Nik.

Cheers Murph, I’ll see you up at those heady heights later in the year....

It's been great gaming weather this autumn/winter TBH. Share the love here if you like: https://ukbouldering.com/board/index.php/topic,4653.775.html  :)

Nik fb msg me if you fancy getting out on the grit at some point.

Some very achievable ones for me, mainly good climbs at reasonable grades to try and make me get to some of the crags I wish I went to more.

Tremolo 7c @ Malham. Hopefully in 2-3 sessions.

Onsight Yosemite Wall 7a+ @ Malham. I’ve been saving that for too long - time to give it a go.

Night Glue 7a+ @ LPT. A good reason to go there - preferably onsight.

Grand Canyon 7b+ @ Devil’s Gorge. Been wanting to give it a go for ages.

Electric Warrior or Wargames or Super DuPont @ Chapel Head Scar. One of these ticked off would be great and get me back to the crag.

Smooth Torquer 7a+ @ Kilnsey. An old nemesis...

Try to stay injury free.

If everything works out I’ll have had a great sport climbing year!

I’m going to add Powerband to my list too. Always had a weird obsession to want to climb that thing...

Climb on average more hard (for me) routes than last year.

Climb x5 7c's

Unrealistic... climb 7c+

Great trad lines such as Yukan II or London Wall

Meltdown

The Zone

Once Upon A Time In The Southwest

Secret slate project

Tuppence

Helvetia

F8A boulder that's boulder problem length

F8a OS/flash

Be in good enough shape to seriously try the La Junta project in Cochamo in Jan 2021

Go on more climbing trips.

Get a van when I return the one I’m borrowing.

Do more routesetting.

Spend more time prioritising close friendships and communities that I'm part of. Maybe at odds with all of the above!

Hmm, I skipped this this last year, but I guess  I need to do something list wise so;

1) Get woody built by end of Jan. OK, revise to end feb
2) Get some ski tours done if we ever have a winter. Something on the west coast would be nice.
3) Sub 2 hours for Forfar Multi terrain half next month  1:50:20
4) Complete John Muir Way Ultra (stretch goal under 6 hours).
5) Balmoral 15 miler in under 2 hours or Lairig Ghru race. Or both..
6) Surf more
7) Do last couple of boulder projects on the coast.
8) Do some mountain routes
9) Do some more bouldering a bit further afield in Scotland; Clova, Lednock, Torridon.
10) Do some bouldering in England for the first time in ages; Lakes, Northumberland or Grit.
11) Climb somewhere abroad, not overly bothered where.
12) Do a bit of Mountain Biking, feel like I've neglected it for too long now.

After some time for pondering and checking of possibilities, aims this year:

1. Climb some desert towers (6 shooter, ancient art, owl)
2. Tick off more of the *** way to yorkshire grit heaven ukc
3. Climb lots of US easy classics (Wyoming? Yosemite? Red rocks? Bishop? Recomendations welcome for 5.9 or easier!)
4. Do some dirty headpoints of local stuff
5. Boulder some 7B (just try hard!)
6. Some sport 7s (take some falls!)
7. Get out after work with lamps etc..

7. Finish Phd
8. Get gainful employment

3. Climb lots of US easy classics (Wyoming? Yosemite? Red rocks? Bishop? Recomendations welcome for 5.9 or easier!)

Recommendations -

Red Rocks: Crimson Chrysalis 5.8, Epinephrine 5.9, Tunnel Vision 5.7, Black Orpheus 5.8, Black Dagger 5.7+ (sandbag!)
Yosemite: East Buttress of Middle Cathedral (5.10c or 5.9A0), Snake Dike 5.7
Tuolumne: Regular route of Fairview Dome 5.9, On the Lamb 5.9, West Crack 5.9, South Crack 5.8
Bishop: The bouldering and alpine climbing are spectacular, the cragging is so so and doesn't compare IMO to yosemite/tuolumne/red rocks. That said, in the alpine: Fishhook Arete 5.8, Venusian Blind Arete 5.7, north buttress of Mt Goode 5.9 (intimidating!), East Arete of Mt Humphreys 5.5, North Arete of Bear Creek Spire 5.8

My aims:

Training:
Reset the home wall
Build up to doing repeaters on half crimp, 35 deg sloper, wide pinch at body weight (currently taking weight off)
Train regularly, training or climbing at least 3x/wk

Climbing:
7A in font
7A+ in Bishop
Go climbing at at least one new venue (Black Mountain most likely)

Non Climbing:
Play out at least a couple gigs (I dj house music as a hobby)
Cultivate relationships with friends + family
Spend time with my awesome wife (most likely concurrently with some of the above :) )

Bouldering:
1. Get out to Font (!!!), even if it means going on my tod and braving bad weather. Got some time off coming up at the end of this month so I'm committed to going. Wanted to go back for three years but due to life events and injuries it just didn't materialize.
2. Do some ace lines in Font and have a good old time.
3. Go on a couple more trips to Wales and get back to the Glorious Gop (and the Pass ofc).
4. Don't get totally bogged down in said bouldering.

Trad:
1. Actually go out more than twice a year, so that you can enjoy climbing the things you want to without shitting yourself and getting pumped stupid.
2. Climb the classic grit routes you wanted to do before you moved to Sheffield but never got round to for reasons stipulated in 1. Ideally Fern Hill, Moon Walk, Billy Whizz and Downhill Racer. Wall of Horrors would be great as well.
3. Climb at Cloggy.

Training:
1. Consistent 1 arm pull-up.
2. Get anywhere near 1 arm-hanging middle BM slot.
3. Climb one or more benchmark Moonboard 7B.

Non-climbing:
1. Stop being a social hermit.
2. Go to a festival in a sunny country.
3. Go skiing with girlfriend.
4. Get to font 7A equivalent in ICU/Critical Care nursing knowledge/competence ;D.
5. Less consuming, more creating.

If I can do 5 or more of these that would be great.

5 off the “why have you not done these yet?” list
5 sessions trying 8B/s
5 new UK crags
5 second one arm BM 10’s
5 off the board list
5 days sport climbing
5 eights
5 climbing trips (weekends/holidays)
5 FA’s (including shitty link ups and shitty sitters)
5 training room PB’s

allez :strongbench:

and
50+ fingerboard sessions
50+ stretching/mobility sessions
50+ conditioning sessions

this year might actually be great for my climbing :2thumbsup:

May I recommend sticking the stretching and mobility in the rest periods of your fingerboarding? This means they actually get done rather than being left out for something more fun, although I guess we are not going to be short on time!
