Punch yourself in the face Barry. Radicalise the moderates.

I can't believe I do all my redpoints with a chalk bag, often in trousers, with hair of a variable length, having not got my belayer to beat me up. Most of the time I've even got the added weight of bits of rubber and gaffa tape too. I am such a punter.

And another thing: don't go to Malham on Saturday, go on Sunday.

Spend Saturday doing fuck all.

I don't mean fuck all like 10 hours DIY, working from home, worrying about your rental empire, setting fire to your hand whatever your hobbies are. I mean, have a lie in, send the kids off to lazer quest, go for a short walk to the shops, make your self a deluxe omelette, watch the rugby sat on your sofa. Do nothing. (Your family will thank you for this later).

Then on Sunday drive to the crag in good time at whatever speed you find relaxing, people have different definitions of this.

The working week is more tiring than you might think.

Forget all that nonsense above. There's only one thing you need to do. Heed these carefully chosen words of advice given to me by Richie Crouch after falling off a 6C in Magic Wood again:

"You fucking dickhead, just climb it!"

Did it work?

Well, I climbed it, so I guess it did.

Shark, have you tried putting your finger up your bum? I mean, just generally.

A year ago or so, I overheard Tim Palmer at the cliff saying "Sometimes you've just got to get on with it", or something of similar effect. I have no idea what he was actually talking about, but it's been my climbing mantra since.

Does that help you lose weight?

I find some mild misogynistic verbals just before you set off helps.

Someone recommended to slap yourself in the face a few times to get the adrenaline started.

Maybe plaster your face with chalk beforehand and kill two birds with one stone. :D
