Starter Pads
January 20, 2011, 07:13:51 pm
I know you guys will get this alot, but . . .
I'm looking to buy my first bouldering pad but I don't know which direction to go and don't want to end up with a duff pad! Or get ripped off!

Ive been looking at the DMM spot or the Pod Crash Pad, are these big enough to use alone as I'm trying to keep the sizes down so public transports still an option.

Could anyone give me some advice on cheaper starting pads?

I've been using a Pod standard crash pad for a few months and it has been brilliant.

Light to carry, nice to land on and doesn't soak up the damp with the foam being inside plastic bags as on the new Moon ones). Can be carried as both a backpack or on the side style.

The Moon Pluto may be worth looking at too for a similar price? I'd avoid the spot as its a lot thinner than the other two and not ideal as a stand alone pad for most things.

These are cheap, and they'll do. Others are better, but then if you get into it, you can always get a second, third mat etc...

Oh, and they're both available in smaller cheaper versions
