all these gritstone style, replicating the texture of rough rock, sticking a damn pebble in your palm holds are all well and good for adding a bit of fun but they're grim for repeated use.

Add to that I think that nobody has pushed holds past what Pusher were doing a reasonable amount of time ago.

i think a few walls have tested them and decided inevitably they are too harsh to train on.

They are Dream holds if you're the kind of person who dreams of regularly having your hands raped

I think they're great for specific training, i.e. having to think about how to hold them in the best way as they are very irregular in shape and it takes a bit of thought to get the fingers in the optimal position. However, for repeated daily use they will rape your skin. They also get polished very quickly.

 :o

I can think of little worse for the skin than slapping these:

I once stood on a belay on the Sron and leant against a palm laid flat on the rock. It hurt. There were crystals piercing my skin.

These look interesting: http://www.extreme-dream.com/dream-climbing-holds/dumby-basalt

Certainly lowers the rape factor.

You're shitting me.

These are the ones that they have at Alien2 and they are the tweakiest holds ever made (by people)

Oh, and they're not unbreakable, despite the wild claims.

I guess if you like "novelty" holds, then they are quite possibly what you are looking for, unless you would rather give mock rock your business.

I'd award them the least rapey prize, and also the least novelty prize. Interesting shapes they aint, but if I wanted to see interesting shapes I'll go to a nu-rave gig and laugh at the glowstick goths.

They don't have any core holds at Alien2 yet, but do at the church. They seemed pretty good to me, I found the friction a little funny, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.......... i guess. The shape of the holds was certainly friendly enough.

The Dumby ones are good. Polished, yes, but skin-friendly and got a good feel to them.

The rest are horrendous.

Yeah, falling off unexpectedly is mildly amusing, especially if you punch yourself in the face in the process.
