Spot on this article. Brown bangs the drum about "internet for all" and yet the Digital Economy Bill will restrict internet usage in libraries and other places where those who don't yet have access will be most likely to get it. All in a desperate and short sighted attempt to protect the interests of Mandy's mates in the recording industry. It's a fucking joke.

:agree: Good find.  Very interesting and important detail they pick up on too about open data formats.

More of the same via @bengoldacre:

http://www.zdnet.co.uk/news/networking/2010/02/26/open-wi-fi-outlawed-by-digital-economy-bill-40057470/

I've written to my MP about this. It's a total and utter disgrace.

It's old and probably posted before, but every time I read anything about the digital economy bill it reminds me of this daily mash article, that sums up the corruptness of the bill quite nicely.

http://www.thedailymash.co.uk/news/business/mandelson-pledges-to-support-geffen-yacht-dream-200908181990/

It also bears some similarity to last nights dispatches program thinking about it.

Increasingly I'm finding that the Liberal Democrats are the only party who have any policies I agree with.

The Red Queen is about to shift up a gear (although overall its a good thing).

Now all we need is everyone to switch to IPv6.

IPv6 will fundamentally revolutionise networking. I cant be bothered to explain NAT and RFC1918 but there will no longer be requirement for private networks. Never before has the firewall and IDS been more important.

The IPv6 address space delivers 340,282,366,920,938,463,463,374,607,431,768,211,456 addresses as opposed to 4,294,967,296 which is why we havent enough now and we must use things like NAT to preserve address space.

Mind boggling. Arguably, less so than NAT is now, but when you've got your head round that then this is a paradigm shift.
