Which Guide?
June 23, 2009, 11:37:48 am
I'm looking at heading to Sheffield in September for uni and wondered which is the best guidebook to get, i'm mainly interested in sport and bouldering, i already have the BMC Eastern Edges North and am thinking of getting Peak District Bouldering. For a sport guide i am looking at getting either the Rockfax Northern Limestone or the Yorkshire Mountaineering Club Yorkshire Limestone guide, which one would you recommend as the better guide?

The YMC book is more informative and comprehensive, but as it only covers Yorkshire you might be better off getting Northern Limestone as it also covers the Peak and the South Lakes.

You'll be missing out on the joys of grit though (closest climbing to Sheffield are the Eastern Edges of Stanage, Rivelin, Bamford, Burbage, Froggart etc.), so get yourself a rack and the BMCs On Peak Rock.
