No it
Can I be a pedantic twat

Iconic:  Of, relating to, or having the character of an icon.
Icon:  An image; a representation

So Iconic purely means a picture.  The newer definition has been twisted somewhat.

An I suppose you're happy with people saying

Henman netted?
Hamilton pitted?
Incentivized?
Disconnect?

An Icon is generally understood to be an image portraying somethin with a religous of veneration, which has mutated into an understanding of association with something not of this world or of great reverence, hence iconic, a venerated or reverential image thus of great import.

You got the point, though   :P

Although this new phase of saying everything is iconic is a bit duff.  Every 2 minutes on the TV and radio something or other gets called "iconic".

In which case I'd better open some foie gras and get the deep fat fryer going.  Have you ever heard of a beep fried mars bar stuffed with foie gras and served on a bed of frites with mayo?

Hmm, in the same way that the 'iconic climbing photo's' thread spawned from this, do you think we should have a 'pedants corner'? Sorry should that be 'Thread for pedants' or 'place at the arse end of the universe suitable for discussing the finer minor points of the English language'?

 ;D

PS Sloper, I like the sound of a beep fried mars bar.. Doh! its catching!

A bit like Private Eye you mean, yeah a good idea although it would complete with Will's pseduo names obsession.

Well there is already a weird words thread that works well,
Da-news works fine as a sink for general internet silly/funny news pages so why not?
And while we're at it a separate politics thread! I dont mind the odd politics discussion, but would be nice if they were in one corner rather than dotted all over the place.. (and didnt hi-jack/barge in on another thread)

Bubba? waddayafink?

Then again - I quite like the anarchistic way that threads can just tangent off in a random direction on this Board - its one of its finest aspects! Speaking if which, any red-tips activity recently?
 ;)

Think it's ok the way it is at the moment - you can subdivide things too much.

I agree :)

Just came across The Commons on flickr which basically pulls together tons of public archives.

Lots of interesting photos hidden in there (although not masses that would really qualify as iconic and powerful, although I'm sure there are some hidden away, its just a case of finding them!).
