Quality fishing pics
April 17, 2009, 08:55:36 pm
I've been scanning in a load of old fishing pics from my youth. Anyone else got some fishing pics they're especially proud of?

I'm clearly stoned in this one though!

Got an absolute cracker of when I won my zone in an open competition on the Mersey. Should scan it in.

Strange topic this mind!

This is a personal favourite.  Not my thumb, ha ha.

Gorgeous Esox btw, proper pretty.  Anyone caught (& / or eaten) Zander?  Never had the pleasure.

Aw man, I have a few pictures I could put up on here but no scanner...  Damnation.

Good pics though, shame about the stoned look!  You sure you didn't just wake up and catch that thing?

So was I...

Does anyone have any Quality Fisting Pics?

Or do we have to look at gaping cod mouths and slippery eels and use our imagination?

Fishing's the new rock n roll! Was beyond obsessed with the sport from a young age but fly fishing is truly the shizzle and really keen to get re-involved this year.

They stock them in Fontainebleau for this very purpose

There is some bouldering around there too.

After yesterdays excitement stalking trout, Lagers Jr got me out of bed at 7am for some more urban adventuring. The result was her biggest trout so far.

Those brown trout are brilliant. Where abouts did you get the one in the city ? Have you ever caught them on the fly in the city centre ?

Best spots for fly fishing in the city centre are:

downstream side of
around the downstream of Corporation St bridge

Plenty of good spots all along the Don really

Short abseil gets you to a spooky pool with a few resident brownies. I always have the feeling that something is watching me from deep in the tunnel..... brrrrrrr.

You can also access The Porter Brook . Easy climb down. It looks an unlikely place, but before the Great Flood this was an ace spot for big fish in a very small stream; the deep channel down the middle has filled in now - might come back into condition if we're lucky. The landlady at the Matilda Tavern used to feed the trout.

Fly fished the fuck out of Llyn Brenig yesterday. Lost a very decent size rainbow early doors and a few thereafter. Was by far the most torrential conditions I've ever fished in. Left with a rainbow of just over 1lb but lost plenty more. Most takes on booby were unexpectedly lethargic. Washing line and intermediate seemed to be the order of the day at the dam end. Incidentally, does anyone fish Brenig?

Wander over this bridge on my lunch breaks. There's a couple of massive Barbel lie up on the upstream side. Need to start feeding them up and then get in there. Is there access a little way downstream then?

I've taken to catching carp on the fly down at my local water. It's hard to beat for sheer excitement. Will post some photos soon.

Yeah, climb over the railings by the new cycle/footpath on the R bank (looking downstream) in front of the block of flats.

On the fly... nice! I take it you need a beefier than average fly rod for that fella?

Possibly, but I use a 5/6 weight brook rod with a 5 weight line.  ;D

I'll be in trouble if i get anything big though!

I had another half a dozen last night to about 7/8lb, including a really nice ghostie. I've got a piccy on my phone that I'll try an post soon.
