Actually saw it today. Its a Satin Bower Bird.

Not my pic:

Also saw a Lyrebird aswell. These things are brilliant. They can perfectly imitate noises from anything. I've heard them do chainsaws and car alarms.
Not my pic again.

Bower and Lyre, both very cool in different ways, would love to see either.

Really weird. It actually came up to about 2m away from me... Never seen them up close before. They normally disappear as soon as they sense people around. Got video of it too.

Avon gorge today.

6 slow worms. Sunbathing on various footpaths.

Unfortunately, 3 had already been trodden on by humans and killed.

Other 3 were dutifully moved off of the path.

Tread carefully.

And towpath walk back, wood was alive with bluebells and ramsons. And a meadow full of cowslips. Lovely

West Kirby nature ramble in the sun with the Noodle (4yo) yesterday...

Sedge and Reed Warblers, Reed Buntings and my first ever Whitethroat! Made up with this...

Then Natterjack toad tadpoles galore and funky leeches amongst lots of water boat men and pond skaters in the marsh. Spent about 15 minutes lying down on the boardwalk with our face inches from the water, really cool to do this with the lad at such a young age!

Leech

Natterjack Tadpole

Also found this skull which I think was either a young heron or some kind of tern...

Also saw loads of Wheatears up in Teesdale at the weekend...

I spend some of my lunch times trying to watch the peregrines in Sheffield city centre

For a more intimate viewing

I'm not a fan of cute things in general, but even I think this is pretty cool. Check it out.

Up on Scarp off Harris last week - feels a bit like cheating being up there, but got to see Sea Eagles most days, a possible golden, and found an otter holt (sadly didn't manage a sighting).

Herd of aurochs whilst out rowing with my son on Staffelsee today. (Not my picture; my crew's pictures were less than successful due to being taken from a moving boat while the photographer was busy protesting: "Dad, they can swim you know! Don't go so close!")

And lots of coots, crested grebes etc. And a big pike that a couple of Russian guys had caught, but it was already dead. Pike is delicious.

Good eagle-spotting. Guess that explains why you've not been on here of late, you've been to the land of no internet! Lucky sod.

Thanks.  There was internet in the cottage we hired but I was on holiday so didn't use computers/net much.

Thanks also. It was ok.

The Perigrines at Gogarth are very active at the mo, hunting pigeons above main cliff and upper tier presumably to feed their chicks. Spent a couple of afternoons watching them hunt pigeons.

I've seen them stoop for pigeons at speed before but this time I saw just one of the peregrines just literally fly after (no stoop, virtually horizontal flight) and grab one mid flight, absolutely awesome to watch, although I doubt my over excited description of the event helped me mate at the wide finish on the Cruise, but to be fair the Perigrine was more impressive  ;D

Saw an echidna yesterday. Haven't seen one in about 15 years. Forgot how big they are, about the size of a soccer ball. He let me get pretty close aswell, before turning into a ball of spikes.
