Was pretty chuffed to see these guys this morning. I've known they've roamed these hills between The Roaches and Leek for quite a while, but having walked these paths for over a decade it's great to finally see them. YYFY! Just wished I'd had my longer lens on - doh!

That's a great pic. I'm not sure a longer lens would have improved it personally.

Cheers Adam, appreciate the comment. You can be sometimes dragged into getting in close with 'wildlife', but other times it can help to be step back a little and take in the environment too.

It's a great shot. I'm sure a slight crop wouldn't lose too much quality. And maybe up the contrast a natch?

On holiday up in the Teesdale area and can see rabbit, wood pigeon, pheasant and grouse from the kitchen window! Saw my first ever Snipe yesterday along with plenty of Curlew, Black Grouse and Lapwing....

Redpoll in the mother-in-law's garden yesterday

First time I've had a chance to see one close up

hand held shot through a cloudy window with the bird feeders swinging in the breeze and the bird on the furthest and best hidden one - so I may have over done the sharpening tweak

That's a stunning bird, even though I can't say I've ever heard of them until today!

Yesterday, whilst drying out the top of a route, a Natterer's bat popped out and said hello. After a while, it flew off and then returned to land to the right of the route I was drying. It then proceeded to climb what must be at least an eliminate 10b... Humans are weak.

I spend some of my lunch times trying to watch the peregrines in Sheffield city centre

there's a regular killing spot by Telephone House on Charter Row. The killer looks to be using the tower as a viewing platform and also as something to hide behind whilst picking up speed and, after engaging with the target, lands on the top floor of the car park to eat

I haven't managed to get any action pics/video yet, but did go over to look at what fell off one of the food pigeons after a particularly good hit the other week

man, that thing goes fast

[Columbo voice] people who like their nature to be via Magpie's thread may want to look away [/Columbo voice]

dropped about 10 ft from the front door of Villa Mercedes - in a kind of feminist protest stylee - "this is what a fit bird does" or something?

Still awaiting my first swallow/swift sighting of the year... So depressing to keep hearing of people seeing their first on twitter...

Just had a close encounter with a gull. It tried to grab bacon roll out my hand, but got my knuckle instead. And got smacked on the head with my phone for its efforts; should know better than to get between me and my bacon roll.

Sharp beak though, drew blood.

Fucking vermin.

The thread's called "recent wildlife sightings" not "recent wildlife assaultings"!

Waxwing in the tree opposite my study and feeding on the berries in our hedge not 8 inches the other side of the glass.  Bugger to photogaph though as they seemed very flighty and would dissappear back to the tree anytime I came near

Spotted this bower on the walk out of a local bit of rock. No bird but he obviously thinks blue is his colour!

Working in Argyll this week and saw first swallows and a cuckoo.  First year I've ever seen a cuckoo before hearing one. Sweet.
