Indeed.

I've had a) a bonkers next door neighbour go ballistic after nearly 6 months of entirely peaceful living in a mid terrace and b) a downstairs (flat) neighbour with some weird passive-aggressive thing where they'd turn their TV/music up full blast, but when I asked what the problem was in person always said there was nothing the matter.

Sadly the only way (IMO) to sort these things out is to cut your losses and move - I hated every minute of coming back to the houses above and creeping around, anxiously waiting for it to kick off again. Fortunately I was renting in both situations above so was easy to get out, must suck if you're locked into a mortgage etc.

Asked to attend a meeting on Friday with several of my colleagues who are on the same pay grade with our manager. When we go in to the meeting there are 4 other managers,a guy from HR and colleagues from other teams.
We are informed that we are all at risk but not of redundancy but of organisational change, we can apply for one of 5 jobs at the same grade or one of 3 jobs at a grade lower.
Nice pay back for 27 years service.

Why did I read that as gay parade ?

Sounds like weasel word bollocks. If the organisational change makes your role redundant then that is by definition redundancy. If they were offering you a new role that would be a different matter.

They are offering a new role at the same grade, however it will be mainly managerial rather than clinical. This role used to be at a higher grade. Most of us in the past had the chance to apply for jobs like this but choose to remain in a clinical role. If you don't want with of these jobs you can apply for a clinical post at a grade lower i.e do the same job but get paid less.

So they want to retain your skills and experience, just don't want to pay you the same for it. You couldn't make it up.

Don't underestimate the power of wind to drive water through the tiniest of gaps

Yeah, it's a bitch. Problem is our bedroom is directly over the garage and has big windows and front facing the sea - lovely for views, crap for weather.  from where the leak comes out in the garage I measured to try and find out where it was coming from, and it looked to coming from the post between the two windows, so replaced all the knackered silicone sealant around the window frames, but that hasn't fixed the problem. It's not just a drip either, I reckon a good litre plus has come through in the space of 12 hours, so need something a bit better than a bit of plastic to fix it, plus it can't be doing the wood inside the roof much good, so a long term solution is needed.

Neighbour troubles. He went ape shit, banging on the wall, last night at 8.15 as Mrs Donkey was washing up the baby bottles in the kitchen. Went to spoke to him today in a very non-confrontational, calm and apologetic way and he just hurled abuse at me. Shitty new build houses+bat shit crazy people=Bad times

Shit man, had that when I lived back in Derby and it was the worst thing, what was his beef?

Reading between the lines...
Mid thirties
No job
Owns the house (inherited)
No money (no lights on, wears a coat and beanie inside)
Can't sell house
Lives in a four bed family house on his own

Add the above together and you get NOTHING GOING ON IN HIS LIFE

Wow. So the "restructure" isn't anything of the sort - they are downgrading your current job. It must be worth taking advice as to whether this constitues a form of constructive dismissal.

Whilst it's absolutely no consolation, there are a lot of people in the NHS getting screwed exactly in this was at present.  It's crap.

Gutted. A traditional day out climbing always started with a full breakfast to clear the hangover and paging the old YMC brick, arguing about where to go. Usually deciding on Almscliff by lunchtime.

Yup. When I first went there (92) full brekky was £2.. I think it only went up to £3.50  (from £3) a couple of years ago..

Now I'm no economist, but I'm assuming the two statements above may be connected...

No!!!

I have fond memories of the winter trek across from the South Lakes, in our quest for some dry rock, anything, anywhere. Inevitably we'd end up at Almscliffe just as the heavens opened once again. A couple of hours huddling under a overhang, hoping for a brief weather window would presage our retreat to the cafe in Otley. The cheap white bread covered with marg somehow made it all seem worthwhile.

We used to have the £5 challenge - to eat £5 worth of food. The only stipulation was that it had to include a main course and a desert (the killer) - as well as the bread and butter that came with everything...

So got a free pass to the peak without wife and kids this afternoon, the weather looks cold and dry....and I've stood on a nail this morning that's torn a great big hole in my heel. Can't put any weight on it. Arse!
Hopefully I might be able to stand on it tomorrow and the rain holds off.

Had some enjoyable sessions last year cleaning up and doing some nice new problems at a new beach venue 10mins from home. Took the dogs for a run down there this morn only to discover the boulder is now buried under about 200 tons of cliff  :o
Only had one project left too....
