Snow
February 01, 2009, 06:53:24 pm
Is it snowing in the peak/yorkshire yet?
Hoping to get out tomorrow to get back on western eye's. Does anyone want to do me a massive favour and go and throw a huge tarp over it to keep the snow off?

Failing that does Jess' roof stay climable in the snow? what other problems tend to stay climable in the snow? I already know about the remergance bloc and westside story

You should be OK with Jess', Jim.  Unless the wind has blown wet stuff directly onto it.
Having said that, it can be a piss filled wind tunnel at times.
Also. Brownstones is fairly reliable

There's a thin covering at the moment, but the wind has been blowing so the snow may find its way into unusual places.

SNOW!

Only a thin covering, but it's there. Go investigate Sloper's "unusual places", I reckon.

It was snowing at Gardoms South when I left at dusk. If all else fails, stoney would be a good bet. i guess Blind Date would be a stay free of the white stuff.

I was at minus 10 last week (monday), it was all pretty wet apart from the area on the left around the pinch. They're brilliant problems anyway. It's currently snowing HARD in sheffield, and the snake and woodhead are closed as far as i'm aware. GOOD LUCK!!

Chucking down snow in Leeds. Has been for most of the night I think. Almscliff and the rest of the Yorkshire Big 3 will be thick with it I think  :)

I would say this topic no longer needs a query associated with it.

Well, the heavy snow coming down over here has put any plans to get out completely on hold.
Got the fire lit, got a keg of real ale in the back porch, problem solved  ;D
might go out sledging later on with the littl'un

I live within walking distance of Caley (although i've never walked there  :-\) and there was about 4 inches of snow outside my front door and apocalyptic look on my neighbour's face (probably because she was having to walk all of 500yds to work instead of driving her beemer as per). It's been chucking it down with snow off and on all day in c. leeds.

I got home a couple of hours ago, after a 15 hour drive from Devon to Kent.

The M25 last night was a fucking menace.  That's even worse than the Phantom Menace.

I spent a thoroughly unenjoyable night in my car.  I did at least have a down jacket and enough diesel to turn the heating on from time to time.  However, the fact that the back of the car was stuffed full of bikes and assorted paraphernalia meant that the hours between 2am and 7am were spent in the passenger seat, clutching my shivering body like some sort of scrofulous infant.

This misery was compounded when a Vauxhall Tigra pulled up beside me.  A woman got out of the passenger door, circled the car, ripped the drivers door open, and tried to drag her boyfriend out, screaming, "Don't you drive my fucking car like that.  Get a fucking life and get out of mine", before more screaming and quite a lot of crying.  It then went deathly quiet.  I pretended to be asleep.

I then got stuck again this morning.  Luckily a snowplough wasn't that far behind, enabling me to just about make it up the Himalayan heights of Goudhurst hill.

Of course, being from the south I have absolutely no idea about how to drive in the snow.  The only snow I really understand comes from a man called Terry who hangs about outside Chinawhite.  I don't even drive in the rain.  Or when it's moderately overcast come to think of it.  In fact, as you've probably already figured out, the only time a chap like me gets behind the wheel is when there's an odds on chance of picking up two Benenden sixth-formers up in the Azure and cruising up to Claridges for an afternoons tromboning...

You thoroughly deserve a wad for the epic tale and the use of the word 'scrofulous'...

driving past and looking at Curbar and Froggatt there's masses of snow and the slabs are completely covered.

It is thawing and the big problem will now be run off.

Not very positive I'm afraid.
