West Side Story question....
January 04, 2009, 11:45:21 am
Did the sitter to WSS today - starting sat down with your hands on the ramp that your feet normally start on. I can't think for a minute that some other idiot hasn't done this before - any claimants? My thoughts are that it does add 3 or 4 easy-ish moves into the original, but makes the set up for the original problem a bit harder so to do the whole problem (to the top) is a bit more tricky, especially seeing as how the pebble has now been bustificated by some fatty. So maybe its 7c (at last) if you start from sitting and top out?

I think this should be in the news section.
It is news isn't it?

Sorry to burst the bubble but Justin Chritchlow did this several years to eleviate the boredom of watching me trying and failing consistantly on WSS. Grade? No comment, as he walks up WSS like it's a 7a!

No bubble burst. I knew it must have been done before - just didn't know who by. Its a great problem from sitting - its a shame its not writen up in the guidebook. If nothing else, it gets rid of arguments about where you start! Could this be the enigmatic 101st variation of WSS that Johnny Brown has never done?!? If so, another dream has come true ;)

Its just climbing up rocks, Dave. Whether you want to start on your feet or on your arse, it doesn't 'debase' the problem - it was just something to do whilst I was there and had done it from standing a few times. Does The Ace debase The Joker, because you have to start a couple of moves lower?
As I said previously, it adds a new challenge for those who've done it endlessly and want to beef it up a bit, and it also solves the where do you start arguments. And theres a slim chance that JB hasn't done it in his tennies (yet).

Pointless? That sums up bouldering in many peoples eyes. Are you sure you're moderating the right forum, Dave?

Sorry Percy, got to agree with Dave here, drivel like this is best left for misguided staffordshire raiders rather than locals with standards. Else where might things end up?

Obviously I could have done this but chose not to. [insert high horse emoticon]
As far as the grade goes, I thought the loss of the pebble had pushed it to 7c anyway.

its not so much the "just climbing up rocks dave" (as many including critchlow will have done before) as it is reporting it and implying it should be in a guidebook. stuff like this and other "classics" like sit start to pebble arete have been reported over the years and always get laughed out of the park, rightly so, and then ignored. Unless the sea-level on everyone's quality radar is radically reset I would imagine this aught to continue to be the case, it'd be a sad day if not. its clear to everyone (or almost everyone) what kind of sitter is a joke and what isn't, even if things look equal on paper. but if you're psyched i'm sure such ripe plums as the sitter to crescent arete are still up for grabs.

Stubbs that segment was dope. Is it something from an old 411?

I'm going to phone Dense now and see what he makes of the sit start. I sense the opinion will be priceless diamond dust.

video days?
headcleaner?
subtitles and seagulls?
the end? - jeremy klein and heath kircharts section is possibly the single greatest bit of cinematography of all time...

Not average, because of the teams, the skating. Video Days, Stereo, yes.

The End? The Waterworld of the genre. I see you mention the cinematography...

How can getting bevvied, wearing suits and jumping off a bridge compare to anything Spike Jonze has directed? Yeah Right was a new level in cinematography even if you preferred the earlier Foundation vids or whatever for style.

The End wasn't so much clever cinematography as it was a waste of money, although Reynolds' part was sick. The cut-scenes were as bad as Jason Kehl's.
