Peak District Useage Consultation Survey
August 31, 2008, 03:18:27 pm
Boring title, and boring survey, but there's always a chance that it might make a difference to access in the Peak Park in the future so have a look if you have a spare 10 minutes.

You haven't visited in the last two years either then?

Don't think so.  Is that bad?

Nah, it was just that the first question  asked whether you lived in the park or had visited in the last two years, and I thought you may have misread the question.  Some questions at the end give you the chance to write about what you think could be done to improve the park and which other user groups (4x4 drivers) make your experience within the park worse.

Done. Expressed satisfaction about the general activities the park is suitable for, and dissatisfaction at the new Derbyshire speed limits and at 4x4 driving etc on the Causeway.

Funnily enough, that's what I wrote there, too!

Where are these new speed limits?

The hill past Froggatt has got a 30mph restriction along it now. Not sure of any others.

Snake 50 is relatively new.

Calver to Bakewell and the whole road beneath Cratcliffe / Eagle Tor 50 is new.

Nothing wrong with any of them speed limits if you ask me, anywhere with entrances, sharp bends and stupid temptations to overtake needs something to keep daft cunts at least a bit mindful.

I drive everywhere at the speed limit, especially so after I got a letter from the boys in blue for doing 47 in a 40, but didn't get done as it was a safety camera.

What I have noticed is a massive improvement in fuel economy and no noticeable increase in journey times, especially in traffic (I know that e.g. doing 90 down an empty motorway at 4 am would be far quicker than doing 60) - but i did J29 - J10 M1 last weekend, did 60 in the slow lane all the way, and hit a number of those 'phantom' traffic jams that happen (apparently when someone brakes hard according to the TV the other week) - got there in my usual time and only slightly touched the brakes once on the whole journey till we left the M1 (coasting up to those tailbacks really helps, as does going at 40 behind them, the gap only barely increased).

And my motor is a 1.8 petrol Avensis, according to the on board whatsit, I did 53 mpg there and back (Sheffield to past Luton and back).

So none of the motorway stuff really relates to the Peak, but for fucks sake, it's a national park, why not just slow down and chill a bit, it's a nice place after all...

And I notice dissatisfaction at 4x4 drivers- on the green lanes. So these guys doing 1 mph on a green lane are bad, but twats in Range Rovers doing 60 (more like 90) past the Chequers and up the Snake are OK?

I'd prefer a national speed limit i.e. 60mph, enforced where needed. Not a 90mph limit. I'm not going to argue about it.

You can hardly single out 4x4 drivers as the worst for speeding.

Churning the fuck out of old lanes that were never constructed with vehicle traffic in mind is a real issue though. What's worse is damage to the lane actually attracts more of them as it then becomes known as 'challenging'. Anyone who used The Causeway over Stanage ten years ago will be appalled at the state its in now. And they are aural and visual pollution just where folk go to enjoy quiet natural landscape.

I went out mountain biking over Stanage on Sunday and was confronted by around 6 quad-bikes and a similar number of off-road moto-cross bikes. I think all mechanised transport such as this should be banned - apart from farmers / emergency service types. I understand its been banned in the Yorskshire Dales so now the Peak is getting hammered instead. I know some people think Mountain bikes should also banned, but I really don't hink you can compare the 2. With regard to 4WD cars I think they shouldn't be allowed on the cause-way and even though most people dis-like them they can't really be banned from the roads of the peak.

it doesn't default to 'never' and the prompts are poorly scripted so i gave up.

this spring I was walking up the causeway one evening to take photos and this cyclist came down and said to me "theres some guys with a landrover who're stuck up there, they'll probably want you to give them a push". so I thought fuck it and went to high neb intead. screw em. no sympathy there. can't they fucking do it in quarries and shit like that not spots of outstanding natural flava?
