1) Jess's Roof

2) Iron Man

3) Something classic old-school in the Peak, maybe Jerrys Traverse at the Plantation?

4) Get a full nights sleep

5) Go climbing more than this year

Final analysis time on the last day of the year.

I have managed to realise success in items 2), 4) and 5)

Items 1) and 3) have rolled over into next years ticklist.

Overall I very pleased with how things have panned out, something to build on for next year.

Anybody else care/dare to admit how their year has gone?

10 things to do in 2008.

1.  Stay injury free for a change
Not a chance  :(
2.  Having come to the conclusion that I'll never be that technical train to get very strong indeed
Getting there 2009 will be better  :-\
3.  Do a handful of respectable problems (low sevens) in Font
tick
4.  Do a handful of respectable problems (low sevens) in North Wales over Easter
tick
5.  Get my bug bears in the boulderfield wrapped up before access becomes an issue i.e. after a buggy is added to the bouldering gear list (see 10) - namely Acid House, Lightning Strike and Liquid Sunshine
could get excited about the boulder field...
6.  get back on a rope in Portland - finish tipping the scales and complete do the top halves of Deadlosski must die and Subyouth for starters
Deadlosski tick, subyouth in 2009
7.  Up my limestone grade to V8 with Lats, bolts and babes and Stomping with Bez (new cuttings)
stompin' tick  ;D
8.  Get back on the grit next winter and visit the buggy accessible places I've been saving/staying away from recently (see 10) inc the Eagle stone, Burbage South and Curbar - any other suggestions??
didn't quite work out
9.   Not get too cynical about work
erm, not too bad.. ::)
10.  Become a Dad
Dr Junior is due on the 15th

I'm surprised you managed to get on the train after that most epic of journeys, let alone do the problem in two halves. Have faith bestia!!!

Big G Start
Finish fucking Rock Attrocity
The Sting
Bus Stop
South West Overhang sitter (hmm..)
The Malteser

Close a CoC 1.5/2 (2 if I'm lucky punk), get back into running good style, etc etc.

Hmmm. Few done! I abandoned ship on The Sting when I realised that it's gash  and painful for me beyond words! This was  substituted with Under the Bridge (which got done). Rock Attrocity left me fondling the slot many a time but then partied too much to retain P.E. This did however, keep my weight low and my sex drive high from all  the dancing.

Captains of Crush 1.5 was closed once on two separate occasions after some prolonged sessions.

Managed one session on Big G in way too hot conditions so keen to revisit. Much more focused this year having  tried some new things.

In summary, a) I need to spend less time on the board getting erect about silly little things and fondle some rock.
b) continue integrating miscellaneous hardware and software in the studio
c)make sure I hold it together enough tonight to talk to a certain girl.

Good luck in your aspirations for '09 holmes!!

1.   break 1:40 for the half marathon
2.   manage to combine training for the above with improving my climbing
3.   use the fingerboard more
4.   wss
5.   the terrace
6.   visit a new area in font
7.   big boss
8.   hotline
9.   gnossienne
10. Trois hommes et un coup fin, if I can get enough pads together.

1. 1:30:49, get in.
2. No, but not lost too much ground.
3-5 Nope
6. Of course
7-10 Nope - didn't get on BB, hotline was wet, gnossienne was hard, trois homme et un coup fin was scary  :boohoo:

Think I should avoid specific climbing aims in future...

Move pile of left over sand  from flat into Broadfield in surreptitious ' great escape' manner , tick .......

In between his sediment shifting visits to the pub, Grumpy managed to whore his way into the 6a club  :beer2:

Brad pit - tick
The terrace - tick

F8a(+?) -tickety tick tick for both
F7c onsight or flash - tick, unexpectedly went one better and onsighted and flashed 7c+ too
Lots of quality euro lime sport in general and go DWSing somewhere good with warm water again. - plenty of euro lime, but no DWS, even above cold grey water.. must correct this next summer.

Headpoint:
EOTA
Simba's  - not done either, but not been very psyched for grit routes.

Onsight/flash:
Ghost train
Hunter Killer, orange robe burning, caveman, coronary country, LOTF, king wad, painted rumour, jasmin, something more on gogarth mainn cliff, loads more classic E5s
If I get to Ireland: above and beyond, primal scream, hell's kitchen arete, lots at the burren
-did lord, above and beyond, a reasonable amount at the burren and a decent bunch of e5s from the above list. No trips to pembroke which definitely needs correcting this year! I blame to weather for those not done, though lack of balls mught have something to do with it too

1 - Not get permanently exhausted through working too hard - Tick... Started a new job in October
2 - Be fit and strong enough to really make the most of the Banyaks boat trip in May - Ticked... felt great and surfed every day
3 - Finally climb a Font 7b problem (I've made it to 7a+ each year) - Nope... done a couple of 7a+s
4 - Do lots of routes in the Summer - particularly away from the Peak - Managed a couple of Wales trips but that was it .
5 - Drink less and eat healthier - Done well on this one having cut down on the booze massively
6 - Get lots of sleep - Less travel at work and going to bed earlier really helps
7 - Acquire less stuff - Tick. Got rid of loads of clutter too

#159 Re: Aims for 2008

Aims:
- deal with a few of my Yorks grit projects, any of the following will do:
Underhand and either of the two Virgin face probs at Almscliff
Ring Piece and First Arete at Ilkley
DIA, Handy Andy's, Sloping Beauty, and The Flakes at Earl
                   Ben's Groove at Caley

Partial success: I managed the easier of the Virgin problems and DIA and later linked sit-starts into both.  Underhand remains a bete noir and will be rolled-over (one year's work = one move further along!).  I reckon Ring Piece and Sloping Beauty will go soonish.  Ben's Groove still terrifies me....

Quote
- get back into visiting the Lakes, especially for the Bowderstone where pretty much anything harder than Picnic Sarcacstic awaits

Managed one trip: did Lateral Gruntings and Statstick at the 'Stone (also falling repeatedly at the last move of the Picnic sitter) and Shallow Grave at Trowbarrow.

Quote
- give sport climbing a proper go i.e. red point a project (though I'll need to find a climbing partner for this)

Sort of: I had a few good days on UK limestone.  Looked at charitably, my third try of Last Dog at Gordale and second go at Clarion Call almost count as sucessful RP campaigns!  Also had a lot of goes at Witches Brew at Kilnsey but was ultimately unsuccessful (falling at the last juggy move on one occassion).  Definitely a type of climbing I want to get into more (although I'd have to get off my arse and find some partners).

Quote
- climb abroad, preferably somewhere I haven't been before even if it's just Euro sport

Success, although a trip to Mallorca was the minimum.

Quote
mind you all of this requires getting stronger, unfortunately the recent trend has been for the reverse so I'd probably be content to just get back to my previous level of punterdom.

The juries out.... I suspect I'm stronger but I'm definitely heavier - I can climb pretty much as well as I ever could, but have to do it quicker!

1) Eat more healthy.
2) Buy another house.
3) Get a job again in the summer after 2 years off.
4) Move from PC to Mac (Maybe)
5) Get a better DSLR and get a bit better with my photography.
6) Learn Spanish

Didn't accomplish 2 or 6. All others. Ticked!

Indeed  I did , a mere bagatelle to 99.99% of people on here , but to a fat 46 year old with carpel tunnels in both wrists that's sometimes so bad I can't feel the holds ,  it was extremely satisfying .....

1. Climb some nice grit routes (if my trad rack is still serviceable)
Trad rack in storage, along with my talent.
2. Go bouldering with Houdini
Hou?
3. Go to Font at least a couple of times
Yeah right.
4. Climb some sunny sport routes in the autumn
Nope, but I did have a dream about climbing some sunny sports routes. Then it turned into the usual snake pit / unable to run nightmare.
5. Ride impulsively-bought freeride bike some more
Was in storage too till about 3 months ago, and I could buy the same thing for £900 on ebay, so a massive waste of cash that I could've wasted on drugs and sex toys.
6. Go swimming in impulsively-bought triathlon wetsuit some more
Triathlon wetsuit case was for most of the year home to the huge quantity of cheap cigarettes that I brought back from India at Easter.  I think there's an irony hidden in there too...
7. Buy house
Luckily I wasn't that stupid.
8. Build training facility (subject to 7)
The only training facility a man needs consists of a pint glass, a large tumbler and a well-lubricated rolling pin.
9. Buy boat (subject to 7)
Carried forward

1. Climb remaining E2-4 routes in Lleyn section of North Wales Rock before spring. - no, ran out of time.
2. Climb abroad on either Scandinavian granite or German/Czech sandstone. - no, too injured.
3. Go on whatever bouldering / sport trips abroad are available. - no, too injured.
4. Hang out with my mates more and do more climbing with them. - no, too injured.
5. Climb a few remaining inspirations at Nesscliffe, Baggy, a few esoteric odds and sods, and on grit. - no, just didn't happen.

0/5

And...

Have decided to remix an alternative / additional top 10 from most inspiring goals other people have mentioned:

Quote
1. be absolutely flamboyant
- no, not much to be flamboyant about.

Quote
2. remain SYKED
- no, too injured & fragile.

Quote
3. get AWESOME
- no, see above.

Quote
1. 4. stop fucking about.
- no.

Quote
5. work harder at everything
- no.

Quote
6) Learn Spanish
- no.

Quote
7 - Acquire less stuff.
- no, didn't get round to getting rid of stuff.

Quote
7. 8. hope to fuck I enjoy my climbing as much as I am at the moment for ever
- in between, too injured but enjoyed some stuff, the spirit is still there.

Quote
9 Have a considerably more productive year for trad and boudlering in Scotland
- YES, two great trips up there, the highlight of the year.

Quote
10. (from another thread) Go to the next Detatched Fiend .
- no BUT did go to see Surgeon which was cool.

I'd say that averages out at 1 and two halves out of 10, a grand total of:

2/15

Hmmm...

That's not nearly the pass mark is it??

Oh dear.

1. Get stronger fitter discover technique and try and be more static.
2. Get a van.
3. Climb loads all over the country (bouldering and trad).
4. Go to Font.
5. Go climbing with mates more.
6. Gorilla\Extended Warfare.
7. Get back onto grit trad at a grade above VS and stop being scared witless about it all (just scared will do).
8. Avalanche Wall (Curbar) without falling off or slumping onto gear.
9. Climb on Slate.
10. Climb abroad somewhere other than Font.

1. Might have discovered technique but it could equally have been a rare on day for me - certainly not stronger, fitter or more static.
2. Cash in bank - just a matter of spending it now.
3. Tick - trad only really but still managed Cornwall, Wales and Lakes which I was well pleased about.
4. Fail
5. Think I managed this one
6. Played on this a bit but nothing worth noting in all honesty
7. Fail
8. Fail
9. One day on slate - need to do more next year to see if I was having an off day or whether it's all a bit overrated
10. Ireland, Kalymnos and Sardinia
