Can any one recommend any good entry level venues in the Northern lakes? We're going to be in keswick over weekend, but are fairly new to it all. Weather looks like it'll be quite good on Saturday though.

Yup, go to Carrock Fell. 

It's about 15 minutes from Keswick, is perfect this time of year and has tonnes of lower grade stuff.  Some of the lower grade stuff is very good too, particularly in the northern group (ie the boulders furthest up the road).
