I wasn't trying to protect a UKB monoploy on peak news, I just don't see the point in another cut and paste news page. Either go the whole hog or don't bother. If it works the database submissions format should act as a self generating, from the horse's mouth news medium for problems of at all levels, as the YG one does. Given the work required to run the database i'd be reluctant to take on any other biggies if it were my site.
Re the UKB news area, I don't think it should be reserved for nationally significant stuff, it would be much smaller and who's to decide what's significant, it's all rather relative. Perhaps it would be better subdivided into regions and a section for big news, but essentially I think people should feel free to post whatever they like, even if only a handful of others might think it's newsworthy.

Quite right too.  There are plenty of games and subterfuges in the seedy, gossipy world of Peak District bouldering.  Why keep it to just one?

Yes, yes, journoboy. I hope you'll be taking these high standards to the Congleton Float Fishing for Chubb Monthly or wherever you end up  ;)

Unfortunately not, I am still at college at the moment.  I was hoping to bypass the Congleton Float Fishing for Chubb Monthly and gain a position at the much more prestigious Congleton Pedant.  That however will remain a pipe dream. I am put to shame when people such as yourself pick people up on spelling and typos with such ruthless vigour.

I hope there's no mistakes in this.

SF wrote; I hope there is no mistakes in this.

Surely it should be; I hope there are no mistakes in this (post) OR I hope there is no mistake in this (post).

This is the joy of UKB. Aside from the splendid 'non-PC' threads and excellent swearing, the use of the humble apostrophe and other grammar devices is rightly queried. You lot should read http://www.apostrophe.fsnet.co.uk/

On the subject of the new website: good effort, but don't underestimate how much work it will involve. As a rotund punter operating below the Standard Entry Grade (7A? 7B?) I'd endorse a non-elitist approach like the yorkshire site. PS - what happened to The Moves?

who really cares if it appostrophy or not, apart from uncle, parry and cofe? no one.
Back on subject...
hopefully Jon @ yorkshiregrit will help you turn your new site into something similar, if not better than yorkshiregrit.com which is an excellent site but I feel it lacks a scorecard like what bleau.info has.
As has been mentioned, bollocks to the news and forum bits, just concentrate on the documentation of the areas and of the problems. This is the meat of the site and the most important bit.
If you want any photo's etc... pm me

Me?

Anyway, good luck, this should have been done years ago but is no doubt going to be a success.

does any body on here know this guy?

http://www.ukclimbing.com/forums/profile.php?id=16661

He did a website (i think i mentioned it to OP on ukc in december) called the moves, which was pretty simmilar to what you're talking about, it looked pretty swish but he bailed on it for some reason.

if you can get hold of him he might send you the website to view....

Think JP actually has a peakgrit version of his yorks grit page that isn't public - I don't think he can be arsed updating it though........

You can see which problems you've voted and commented on, so long as you vote for the problems you've done it's giving you the same functionality.  Well, it lets you see what problems you've done, when and how hard you thought they were, doesn't give you a score and ranking, but who really wants those?

Didn't realise that squeek (what with me being fucking miles from yorkshire I've not had an in depth nose around the site) - sounds good. As far as I'm aware the Bleau.info option doesn't give you a score or ranking either - just a profile page with a list of the probs you've done, in a variety of orders. I like the 'by area' list - lets me know which places I should spend more time.

Hi ya,

Yes it is still being done, i have teamed up with a web designer who is helping me out on this one. Which means it should be a lot better!! At the moment it is still in development, and uni work lurks round every corner so give it time.

Will keep you posted with any developments.

Cheers
