Do they have to be in the UK, cos if not I'll throw in

La Joker - I don't care if it was the first 7a in the forest - Load of shite.

C'mon, don't stop there! Abattoire, charcuterie, marie rose etc. etc. - bags of over-rated polished shite the lot of them.

You could just extend that to be "anything within 200 feet of the car park"

Except maybe Control/Technique  - thats pretty cool (but too hard for me!)

definately trackside, what a thrutching nightmare.

Hampers hang as you say,  nicely shredding all your skin in seconds.

I dunno what all the fuss is about Trackside - Ive always found it pretty straight forward.

That is once Id done it - until then I just found it a thrutching nightmare

Although the finish is top class the start of Jerry's arete at the Stride is minging especially if tall.

How does Ben's wall go, is it left hand to the side pull, feet smear and then top?

Marks Roof Gardoms, nice moves until the nipple grinding top out - my idea of fun this aint

hmm, i seem to disagree with most people here...

i LOVE Mark's roof
i really enjoyed Strawberries and Trackside, maybe cos i found them easy. I took more attempts on the shitty 3-pocket probem on the left FFS!

NTBTA and T-crack both suck tho
My most hated problem in the Peak is probably that slappy thing up to the left of Brad Pit, it's just no fun at all.
Outside of the peak it has to be Nescafe @ Cuvier - i hate that problem so much =[

Whats not to like? Pull on campus. Job done.

Trackside however, heel by waist rock over, grind chin, strain and dont forget to gurn like mad, and if the heel slips....Its just not fun

Can't think of anything I've done in the Pass etc that is remotely bad.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again; the edge problem is utter shite, and jonny's wall should get a negative star rating...
And as for routes, don't get me started, but I'll throw in Cenotaph corner because it deserves it.
Though the best thing about wales is the quite bewildering plethora of esoteria to explore, so many quality unknown climbs to do, its impossible to get bored (so far)

Agreed, worst move I've done in Wales. Didn't have much of a go on t'Edge Problem but it did seem pretty shit.

Still, looks like the Peaks is top for gashness so far ;)

Please, as much as I like wales, the climbing is not a scratch on the peak.
For every shit problem in the peak there are at least 10 in wales.

The only true shit classics listed so far are:
harts arete
hampers hang
jerry's arete (minging start)
and La Joker

T-Crack is class, people only dislike it cos they can't do it (me included)
I retract my earlier comments about marks roof, this is a good problem
I was a bit fecked off with it the other day, is all

I totally agree with Hampers Hang, for all the quality problems at Rowtor there are two that stand out as crap for me: Raw Power and Bus Stop Mantel

"The Crack" on the Bowderstone.

Great line, shit climbing.

"J Mascis" at Gouther Crag.

Again great line, poor climbing... okay so the fisrt moves good, but the other 10 are crap.

how about new jerusalem at caley? a one move wonder that's both over-rated in terms of difficulty and quality.

jerry's arete (minging start)

You people   . Whats not to like about a crossover onto a broad pinch off a bomber slot?
As for some of the others suggestions, is it the really the boulder problems or your technique that is crap?
Having said that, Hamper's Hang and Blind Date are pretty over rated.

Anything at Parisellas Cave.  Especially the utter wankfest that is the left wall traverse and all it's variations.  Total shite.

That easy arete thing on the upper tier at the Roaches (Joe's arete is it?).  Polished awfulness above a muddy puddle and a queue of people trying to polish it with bad footwork.

Can't believe someone just dissed the mantels at Rowtor!!!  Then again if every problem was a mantel I'd be in heaven.   Likewise, leave Mark's Roof alone please.  It's class.

Unlike that feckin' Banana Finger dross.

But ultimate shite award for me has to go to The Wolf up in Cwm Glas, North Wales.  I know it's not a mega classic of the UK, but I've been meaning to rant about this for ages.  I dragged myself up there on the strong recommendation of a certain Mr Panton, to find a lichenous lump of rubbish that I couldn't climb (and there lies the reason behind my opinion I guess).  So I walked back down in a strop, muttering to myself about so called classics.  Since that visit Simon has again extolled the virtues of this problem on this forum.  I know, I know, it must be good moves.  It must be better than I let it appear on my visit.  But I was so hacked off at it on the day.

Rant over and apologies to Simon, usually your recommendations are spot on.

I'm baffled as to why Go West is considered "frustrating until you get the knack..." it's not that hard, just some slopeyish crimps... Not exactly classic...

Quote from: "Fiend"
Got a couple more, again not classic, but again unduly popular given they're enough to make you want to give up climbing - Wobbleblock at Burbage Bridge, and even worse the wall problem around to the left, god what fucking awful moves, about as far from "Fun" as it gets.

Couldn't do it either?

the bus-stop mantel's a bit of a grovel, but at least it's a pure line (well...). but Raw Power... yeah that's shit

Being provocative, I reckon some of you lot will be hanging up your rock boots in a few years time... perhaps you're not cut out for this climbing business?

I mean seriously people, how can Hampers Hang, Trackside, Blind Date and West Side possibly be sh*t problems??

The only time I get seriously hacked off with a problem is if it has a dumb eliminate rule. Some eliminate rules are okay (generally the really basic ones like 'traverse the wall staying below the top'), but stuff like Jerry's Traverse at the Plantation (avoid good hold at end) or Powerband at the Snore (only use approved sequence!?!) are just plain silly.

Even really vicious, skin trashing problems are cool. I still feel compelled to do them, although usually only once.

Ben, how dare you cast aspersions on the Cave of Ultimate Justice and Truth! I see little difference (save for the view and the landing) between that V7/7a+ sitter down at Cae Du (that I remember we both thoroughly enjoyed that day last summer) and a typical Cave problem, except that Cave problems tend to be longer.

The Wolf just needs a bit of traffic - I still rate it as one of the best problems in the Pass. Will Perrin did a really cool looking 7a/+ sitter to it as well, which I'd love to go back and do.

Jim, the Peak has one or two world class problems (Careless Torque being the obvious example) that overshadow the best that N Wales has to offer, but in my experience a 'good' Pennine problem is really no different in quality to a 'good' Welsh problem. There are legions of shite problems in all areas of the UK, even the much-revered County has its fair share (ever tried any of the obscure problems at Rothley?)

Ah! one or two from Lancashire...

Digitation... why is this classic? Horrible polished smears and it's eliminate too...

Unjust... said to be classic. Far to eliminate to be so.
