Phew doubt it. He's done one on my board so maybe that. Local advantage and all that.

#28 Aims for 2017
December 27, 2016, 10:47:46 pm
Goal for last year was to start route climbing again and do an 8b.

Goals for 2017 are to do a few 8bs away from home under time pressure, onsight a proper 8a (ie. no slash grades/things that are actually 7c), do a tricky boulder like Jerry's Roof. Tidy up some nemeses at home.

Don't get fired from job, sort my head out, go to church more, be less of a prick.

I've been working on that last one of the second paragraph for decades. (You'll never catch me in church though, sorry).

'Bout as close to success there as I am on your first paragraph...

All posts either sarcastic, tongue-in-cheek or mildly mocking-in-a-friendly-way unless otherwise stated. I always forget to put those smiley things...

The last three aren't very quantifiable! Strangely, my goals include 'sorting my head out' too. Literally and figuratively. I will leave the church attendance all to you, however.

The main aim this year is not to get too weak while we get to work on our first home. Should be completing in a couple of weeks. A BM will be going up in the loft room almost immediately

So long as that goes to plan, then the real goals would be
- Go to Font
- Boulder harder than 7B (my current hi-point)
- Get on the end of a rope and climb a couple routes in the 7's

Off to Rocklands end of June - only got a fortnight so really psyched to make the most of it:

Be in shape for SA, have an awesome trip.
8A in UK and SA.
8b (prob going to put this back to after birthday in order to focus on SA)
Go trad climbing again
Check out more of the Dartmoor bouldering in the Teign valley (ie try something other than Devon Sent)

2017 looks quite a lot like 2016...

- Rehab injuries to the point they don't affect my 2017 climbing ambitions. Specifically: dodgy knees that object to torqueing heel-toes, crunchy neck/shoulder, and to some extent, my perma-fucked left ring finger
- Complete Kilnsey project I bolted last year (bonus of doing any of the other new routes/link-ups I've already scoped out/bolted/cleaned)
- Traverse of the Gods
- Regain OS level of f8a
- Complete >16 f8a’s which takes me over x100 8a and above (currently on 84, or 93 if blatant soft touches are included)
- Milk current employment for all it’s worth in my remaining ~2 years without going crazy because of myopic mis-management
- Maintain a significant relationship whilst doing all above

Just make sure lots of vid documenting the training for it - I much prefer board vids to climbing vids.

Hopefully you'll get your head fixed with a nice bit of metal and you'll become an indestructible cyborg!

That's the plan. Perhaps I can get Kevlar flexor tendons and rhino hide finger tip skin in with it.

1. 10 8c's and above
1a. Do a 9a route.
2. Do some more 8A+ and above boulders (proper boulders not traverses or long roofs ect)
3. Get atleast 1 route setting job a month. (This is an absolute minimum. Ideally I'll  be getting 4 a month by end of year but we shall see)
4. Depelop my open handed/half crimp strength. Would be nice to match my current full crimp strength aka 5 sec hand on toms latice or 11 sec on BM currently at 10kilos asistance for half and 20 for open.

Ride a horse

first time I rode a horse was on the beach at sunrise somewhere north of Sharm el Sheikh - it was ace - I recommend going somewhere really cool to try it (Fontainebleau forest might be suitable, for example)

or for something nearer - the folk and horses at Smeltings Farm near Ringinglow are very nice

Return to some semblance of fighting weight. At least 20kg to go...
Devise a training plan that is realistic, safe, fun, and mildly ambitious.
Ditto for cycling.
Take the kids to Font and climb something to be proud of based on above.
Try to fit in some grit weekends, and tick some cool things I've not done, hopefully up to E3.
Something else on foreign soil later in the year - Morocco / Siurana / Provence?
Ride SDW in a day.
US work trip / pick up new bike and do something fun, like Onion Valley Road or Highway 39.
Cingles du Ventoux.
Sort out our disaster area of a house, including kitchen before the 2 year anniversary of my taking it out of action.
Do a shitload of great work, inc 3 books minimum.

Challenging year in prospect. Ben will be doing A levels and Tommy GCSE’s so they will need support/nagging. Also I’ll be immersed in a challenging new job (hopefully). Currently devising an algorithm that will enable me to achieve objectives in new job that balances family life whilst optimizing training that achieve all climbing goals not forgetting to keep existing business interests ticking over.  :-\

Climbing goals:

Primary goal:
The Oak. 10th anniversary looming in April. Currently training with a view to getting on it in the Spring but that depends on how training, job and other demands go. Otherwise will leave it till the Autumn.

Training goals:
Get to 90% (ideally 95%) bodyweight one arm hang lattice edge (currently almost 86%) and do 100+moves on the lattice board (current max 66). In my efforts to get stronger at bouldering I’ve neglected the PE type work so going to focus on this majorly this year along with finger strength (which whilst better still is still weak for the grade) so regular fingerboard sessions throughout the year.

Diet:
I think sub 11 stone is a long term sustainable weight for me (if sufficiently motivated) so after shifted festive weight will aim to keep there. Keen to test 10st 7lbs at some point to see what its like.

New local/Peak goals:
Finish JR then get on Moffatrocity. eatswood traverse back and there ie Reverse to slopey ledge and back into Original (route 8b). Develop new? bouldering venue  :ninja: (Probably only capable of 2 of the lines). New hard lime trad route I’ve had my eye on for yonks (not at High Tor!).

Old local/Peak projects:
Rattle and Hump start, Bens Roof, Brad Pit, Blind Date, Anger Management, Kudos, Mad Max. Tick at least two.

Destinations:
Go to Pembroke with Conners - not been for years. Go to new bouldering venues with the boys. Go on a city break with Sonia.

Psychological:
Keep at least one step behind Paul Reeve and dont let Conners overtake me

Boulder 8A, preferably in font.
Do something cool in rocklands.
Route 8b.
Route 8a onsight.
Do some actual training.
Try and keep some semblance of work/life/training balance while going on extended holidays around europe.

1. Get to 80kg whilst remaining <10% body fat
2. 100kg bench
3. 75kg overhead press
4. Get an official handicap (at hit the small white ball) and play some nice courses with the old man around N Wales
5. Get back up an 8th grade bloc (may conflict with most of the above!)
6. Go abroad for a proper holiday!
