Wanted: Powermac or Powerbook G4

Now then now then guys and gals

Got a mate in prison who is looking for an old mac in order to run a SCSI drumscanner at her majesty's pleasure. He is after one of:

- a 15" or 17" Powerbook G4, it needs the PCMCIA cardbus slot so the 13" model is no good.
- a Powermac G4, ideally a later "mirrored drive door" model.

Doesn't want anything on its last legs, gotta be all working and plenty of life left. OS no later than Leopard.

Hit me up with what you got.

I've got one of these on 10.5.8. Too new I imagine (no native SCSI) but certainly didn't feel it when it was my only computer a couple of months ago! Been trying to think of what to do with it so your mate in prison's welcome to it if it will do the job.

Cheers for the offer. As far as I know or can tell by googling you can't get scsi cards for a G5, only G4 or older, so I'll have to pass on your machine. Shame though, looks like a good un.

The other option is of course a PC running XP, which should be easier to find, cheaper (I daresay Jim might have one for fuck-all), and also likely more straightforward to get a (less expensive) PCI SCSI card up and running, and easier to get the associated (cheaper) peripherals, and also easier to keep the associated software running without incurring further costs. Not to mention any replacement parts will be more readily available for less outlay, should anything fail. Not to mention it has already been tested to run on such a machine without any issue. But you want an apple on it right, if its going to be under a desk?
