For fuck's sake, I liked Adge's posts.  He did engage in discussion and argument, in addition to reaching for the punter button.  I didn't realise puntering was such a big deal either.

I know nothing about the Palio and have no interest in the argument, but I don't think anything he said was invalid or that voicing his opinion was out of line.  People deleting their accounts after attempting to engage in discussion and argument and being met with personal abuse is not going to make for a better forum.

I thought Adge made fair points, and while nibs is free to disagree I think bitching about the puntering and posting a vid then complaining when he was judged by it is a bit rich.

So, are we saying that we're intolerant of cruelty of animals, the facts about the Palio do speak for themselves, cultural tradition or not, or that we're intolerant of cruelty to nibile, puntering someone for their slightly misguided 'it's always been like this so there's no reason to change it' view does seem slightly harsh, but without criticism there's no education .........

What I can't get my head round is all this hoo-ha over a punter point. I've had my fair share, some deserved, some less so (my most recent for disagreeing with people getting their knickers in a twist over some melodramatic climbing reportage in the popular press). I think its an occupational hazard of posting an opinion on the board. Sooner or later someone is going to disagree with you.

Nice one, personal abuse on a thread that started off about an important bouldering symposium.  N you lot say people are responsible for saying what they believe. You've all just took away the point of a group of boulderers and semi-boulderers drinking beer and chatting and made subsequent interested readers think ukb is a last bastion of knobheads. Can I suggest a thread entitled "abusing people for posting their opinions"
May I suggest one or in rare circumstances two offensive remarks in a thread then get back on track with the original point. Keeps it fresh and slightly interesting
