St Leger recommendations?!
March 13, 2013, 11:12:09 pm
Heading out to France in early May, thinking of climbing at St Leger for a week or so before heading to Ceuse.

Anyone got any beta on where to camp?

And what routes to do, preferably nice onsightable 6c-7b.

Cheers!

A couple of campsites half an hour away at buis les baronnes. May be something closer but they are are both great. It may be a little hot to climb on the south facing crags (ie, most of them) If it is hot the one south facing crag has loads to do in the 7's and easier 8's.

Municipal campsite in buis les barronies is good, its about 20mins to the crag.
The north sector and the sector at the top of the valley are good in very sunny hot  times. The crag at the top of the valley isn't covered in the rockfax guide, but is in th local guide.
Great crag and lovely aspect.

the sector at the top of the valley.

La balme sector? Shady then is it - something to file away...

campsites a plenty near Vaison about 15 min or so drive from the crag. Definitely do not camp at or near the crag, it may well jeopardise access.

definitely do go though, it's a great crag. most of the routes are ok to onsight (compared to brit lime) Le Linceul de Penelope is an amazing 7b.

Isn't everything ok to onsight if you compare it to brit lime? Personally I thought it was a tough and slightly frustrating onsight venue compared to most euro crags, better for RPing or flashing (like Britain).

Malaucene & Baume Rousse also have good onsightable routes in that grade range and are within half an hour or so of St Leger. They're shady for at least part of the day.
