Mud tyres?

Skidding all over the place yesterday on my minions. What's a good value and effective mud tyre?

Panaracer trailrakers have always been awesome for offroad muddy winter conditions.

Muddy Marys or Big Bettys with Gooey Gluey rubber are heavy but pretty good, not found anything better on roots and slime which we have for 6 months of the year in Norway...

Got is saturday but not really ridden it yet. Looks awesome though and the suspension does not seem to need a lighter spring £££ :dance1: £££. Been out on the stinky with felix and had some proper "oh shit" moments on the mud and leaves.

Oh yeah, a tyre question!!!!

I love tyres, changing em, seeing what's what.... Generally pissing about with grip.. Btw minions were my front wheel discovery of the summer, the way they rail in the dry is a joy.

Here is my précis on the above;

I offer no allegiance to maxxis, conti etc..

OK, this waffle will be  directed to gravity riding, not XC, perhaps full on AM... Bt really it's about going down.

Trail rakers. Amazin full on mud tyre. For XC. Don't have lateral wall rigidity for FR / DH.

Wet screams... Shite over rock, scat about on roots. Specialist DH uplift or totally pissing it down in les gets tyre ( developed for the world cup race there years back). Totally brilliant on the right track. U seen my France trip pt2 vid?? That crash is a wet scream on the front, on a dry track, and me washing out, hard....

Swamp things, made famous by Cedric Gracia, racing in them all year on the WC circuit. The beloved tyre of the north shore. Good fun, accommodating on roots and rocks. My previously favourite wharncliffe winter tyre. Wear fast, work well. Not perfect in deep deep mud, but..... I've used them a lot, and probably still will.

Dirty dans... Not used by me... Very fashionable. From my mates for just reason. Think swampthing, more grip though, better on rocks.

Conti barons, not a mud tyre, absolutely great all rounder, incl most wet conditions, ESP on the rear. Very expensive, but last 5 times ( seriously) longer than maxxis. My rear tyre of choice for 8 months of the year.

The find of the year though... Is the specialized hillbilly. Scary tyre.... Predictably skips on hard pack, then finds grip, very good on grit... God knows how. Very very fast rolling. Good on roots. Narrow... 2.3 ( nearer 2.4 in maxxis terms). Lite too. unless the mud is hub deep you can just ignore it.

Knowing u, and the variable trails you ride down... Hillbillys or swampthings, 2.3 2.35 respectively.

Word.

Word indeed.

Just wanted to add, on the Baron, it's the 'Der Baron'
2 ply, black chilli compound you want. You can buy a single skinner for £13 on CRC but its not the same tyre...

Glad someone else asked about this. Been looking into it too (albeit for AM type riding). Shame Barons are so pricey!
