Gout
January 15, 2012, 10:44:30 pm
Aaaargh. Ow. Ow. aaaargh. Ow. Ow. Aaaargh.

And many many thanks to my nomination for "bloke of the year", GrumpyCrumpy - who ran me down to A&E while I was near totally incapacitated this evening.

Poor you, my dad has had Gout a couple of times and it seems utterly horrible.  Hope you're feeling better soon.

Wasn't so much the "classic gout" that was the problem per se

(Sharp, stabbing, severe pain under ball of big toe - which is how it started manifesting.

More the complete seizure of the top of the foot/ankle joint and pain so intense it was impossible to put any weight upon it whatsoever, and screaming agonizing pain every time I tried to move it.)

NHS Bastards!

Apparently everyone else I've talked to who got given Diclofenac got given Tramadol as well.

I've been fucking short-changed!

Diclofenac or colchicine is what I give out.

Not many get tramadol out of me these days. It was sold by those ethical drug companies as being non-addictive - which is utter rubbish. I'm trying to get several people off it at the moment.

Allopurinol or Febuxostat to prevent it.

ouch, ouch, fucking ouch

whilst lying on my back with my foot in the air, I thought I'd take a pick of both my big toes to confirm that it's not just my pain addled brain that thinks they look different

no, one is not significantly further away than the other one - that right foot is permanently larger than the other one due to smashing it up last year, but the toes are usually the same size

in the interests of conducting a trial that would produce no useful data, I guzzled all available painkillers at once

Tramadol is foul stuff.

Diclofenac?  You're generous, naproxen from me!

I vaguely remember some mythy wives tale about that and booze

ah look, here it is (I don't believe it for a minute)

Quote from: some bloke off wikipedia
Alcohol consumption within 24 hours of taking naproxen causes severe dehydration leading to nausea and causing dizziness, fainting and possible unconsciousness. Alcohol should always be avoided when taking naproxen.

That'll motivate them to adopt a healthier lifestyle

I think someone must have slipped me some naproxen the other weekend when I was drinking. I had all of those symptoms.
