La Sportiva Pythons
March 11, 2011, 02:31:56 pm
I see these are now acknowledged by many retailers (The Barn - bananafingers etc), but no-one has them in stock.
Does anyone know when they're due into the country?

Cheers.

I have never tried them but I know a few strong ones really really rate them, Caminati in primis. he told me they are super precise and sensitive and even the heel is good.

They fit well if you have big toes.

once on your foot there similar to solutions in that there is a lot of rubber infront of your big toe, it works well but takes a while to get used to using and also the look of it, try some on and you will see :)

So if you order them, you want to drop a whole euro size for a good fit!
I'm a 41 in ALL other Sportivas, but a friend bought a 40.5 and another bought a 40...the 40.5 is too big after about 5 or so climbs...these shoes stretch a lot!!!
They are super sensitive, but my direct comparison to a solution has meant that I'm not going to buy them - solutions are better IMO!

Does anyone who's tried these know how they compare to the old La Sportiva Venom (the dak green and black slippers with losts of toe rubber)?  My Venoms are nearing the end and I'm after a replacement pointy, down-toed slipper/velcro for steep bouldering and pockety limestone stuff (although something not quite so stiff as the Venoms would be good).

Cool will seek out a pair to try- Pythons, 5.10 Arrowheads and Scarpa Instincts all look possibles. That said, tempted to reacquaint myself with Miura laceups.  I remember them being great all rounders for steep stuff - good edging, great heel, decently toe-down and pointy but not so much to preclude use on more trad stuff.

I wear Katanas in a 40 and last night received the Pythons in a 40 too.
From memory, the Katanas were easier easier to get on when they were new, but this could obviously be down to the fact you can open the Katanas up a lot more.

My misses had to help me get the Pythons on. Her pulling out the front elastic while I pulled out the back.
My left foot started cramping up while I was getting the right foot on.

The one thing that was really noticeable is the pythons are A LOT (seriously, loads) more narrow in the toe box than the Katana.

I'm hoping they'll stretch as much as others have said. Pretty painful at the moment.

I went down half a size from Solutions.

Solutions are a 40 which is comfortable, Pythons a 39.5 which were tighter than the 39 I tried on, weird!

They were cramping the left foot a little when fresh out the box but are pretty nice after 4 sessions in the last week. They feel like they'll be a great indoor comp shoe.

Update from my earlier post.
I've just put them on with plastic bags nice and easy.

Very snug. I wouldn't want to go any smaller.
If that remains the case when they stretch remains to be seen.

I've ordered myself a pair in 7 1/2 I usually take an 8 in boosters, and 7 1/2 in Katana's but they're tight! Plus I get them for trade  :ninja: Woop!

They're billed as an indoor shoe... No reason they cant be used outside? Has naybody taken them outdoors and used them in anger? How do they perform on the real stuff?

I went down a whole size, I wear them outside and too be honest I have been testing them, 4 months of constant use in the forest and they are still going sting, but I must admit I do prefer the muira

I think they are pretty decent although inferior to Dragons/teams on board style angles as you can't pull quite as hard with the toes imo. (Could be a fit thing).

Super comfortable for a toe down though and the heels are a good vacuum like fit. I love them indoors for smeary/clamping volumes. They could be a good grit shoe when it drops about 20 degrees.
