Sometimes great champions are made by obsessive parents. Many examples in all sports.

I think the parental attribute that leads most regularly to making the offspring a good climber is being rich.

I don't know, it can have the opposite effect.  My inability to fingerboard is because my pockets are so full of inherited wealth I can't pull myself off the floor.  My pisspoor dynamism is because my solid gold campus board is too soft and slippy.

And I've heard George Osborne's footwork is appalling.

It doesn't need to be any good, he climbs to the top via a pile of the oppressed poor.   He has an ascent of Violent New Breed planned: Giggleswick is to be ground to a powder and used to bed his patio.

Which he'll claim back on expenses.

:agree:

Me too.

Not that I'm bitter.

Just jealous.

Thats a great effort and I reckon its as well suited for highballing as renegade. Good effort by James too, he's taken some (repeated) huge falls on that.

unless you stick your heel in the crack you fall outwards every time. I'm sure there'll be a video along shortly.

Meanwhile, in the south west...

Gav Symonds did Poppy last week. Perhaps not the biggest number, but it's a great route, one of the hardest down this way, and doesn't see many ascents.

Probably old news to some, but yesterday Michele did New Statesman at Ilkley - superb.

Nice one good effort! Especially after seeing footage of the lob he took at the LOH  premiere, massive fall if he fell from where I think it was from

Nice one. Not scared of the heat, eh. Ground up I wonder? Surely this is a contender. At least I remember someone (Bentley I think) suggesting as much with modern paddage.

I've seen some relaxed spotting before but standing reading the paper is just taking the piss.

Too hot for 8B+, ah well, just tick the best routes in the peak (and yorkshire) in great style instead...

Got alot of respect for michele and his bold trad efforts. how many of the worlds top boulderers would come here for a few months a year and not only do the hard problems but also make good ascents of the bold trad routes. his ticklist from this winter and the last is just superb
