Alright peeps, having just got back from le foret, I thought it'd be an idea to get a handle on the patisserie demographic. I've gone for the main 5 options here that most places always do - obviously theres other queer things like almond croissants etc but lets stick to the main ones.

Dave, I won't hear a better sentence all week and possibly all year. Thankyou.

You should have had another poll option, which was; none of the above, I will tell you below

no cop-out options, you have to have a favourite out of those 5. otherwise you risk walking into the shop and asking for the pastry equivalent of a pirate memory game suitable for ages 4-8.

Chocolate Pains all the way.  Especially when they are still warm from the oven.

And don't try to turn that into something smutty, Parry.

"Margaret!"

I agree. The basics are covered. As a bit of a cake fiend I do like some variety in my boulangerie purchases. However, if you have to pick one option, then there is no beating a freshly baked pain au chocolat. Glorious.

I wouldn't waste the calories on any of them, although I am unsure about what the 4th option actually is.

I'm sensing some cake hostility here.

None of the above, don't like sweet things (with the glaring contradiction of Kendal Mint cake  :P ).

The Pain au Chocolat is racing into the lead!

You can't beat the large packs from the hypermarket. Perfect first thing with a coffee whilst you count the empty 'desperados' bottles around your tent

Oh good lord, NO!  There are few things in life I love more than cakey joy, in fact, some days in Font I didn't want to climb I just wanted to sit on my (rapidly fattening) ass and eat cakes  ;D  I just don't see the point in wasting calories on what is effectively a croissant when there are so many better things out there to chow down on.

You mean those oblong things filled with custard seminal plasma and chocolate drops sperm,  finished with a thin translucent layer of icing sweat which are known by a different name everywhere.  :P

Sorry Magpie it was too glaringly obvious a joke to pass up

Dave, bastard. I am now salivating at the thought of most of them.

Will have to stop at the vastly overpriced patisserie I walk past every day and eat one of their inferior products in the morning, and dream of Font.

I have voted for the pain aux chocolat.  However, I want to get specific about this.  My vote is for a pattiserie pain aux chocolat not the cheapy chewy leathery lasts for months comes in packs of 10 supermarket jobs.  To get even more specific... In Millet La Foret in the square, by the big shelter thingy they have markets under, there is this pattiserie.  In there they do a pain au chocolat covered in chocolate flakes and butter (?) or some kind of glaze with butter in it.  Suffice to say that it is THE best pain aux chocolat I have eaten anywhere.
