went to west vale yesterday. Greasy/sweaty rock, stank of pig shit, midgeys galore, some ok problems but nothing special unless your into traverses in a big way. Don't recon I will be going back.

Does this place come into its own in certain condition?
If not why does it warent 3 page in YG?
In future I will be driving past and going to woodhouse scar/bridestones/widdop etc...

yeah, ss only get 1 page on how to find it and brief description. West vale get loads of problem descriptions and their mostly eliminates anyway. No real good lines except the traverses.

Erm

I actually use the venue every now and again - mainly for the traverse rather than any of the up problems.

Main reason I use it, I can climb for an hour and be pumped out of my mind  :shock: - pump jockey indeed Dave. I've found if I go down there 2 - 3 times a week I can get fit very quickly.

Apart from that there isn't anything special about the place, I certainly wouldn't put any travelling in to go there, buts its on my doorstep.

It can actually be a really good venue in the winter, as it very sheltered and have found myself climbing with a t-shirt on, on all but the very coldest winters days.

It is a 'local' crag that once was very popular. Easy access, sheltered aspect and despite what you say, plenty of good independant lines - although I admit you would get the most out of it if shown around by a local.
Come back in the winter and you'll see a different crag.

In the Peak they have Minus Ten - a similar deal really.

I was in stoke for 3 years - god know why I picked stoke for my university. At least I was near Roaches/Hen Cloud/Ramshaw.

the day i left stoke a story on the news summed the place up, an old age pensioner was mugged for around a fiver, not content with slapping him round a bit, the teeneage muggers then set fire to the poor bastard!

14 months was nothing mate, i did three years, went to leeds for a year and then went back!

not suprising that when a job offer came up in HK i packed my bags and left the country, any longer and i'd have developed that god awful accent and been calling eveyone either duck or love!

i do miss oatcakes though - Stokes only redeeming feature
