Any idea of any sites/shops that have this for sale - have heard that it is awesome, and apparentley really opens the place up?

Yep, it's an ace guide. Much better than the Blocheart guide. There is supposed to be a climbing shop in Chironico itself, which i failed to find (I found the pizza place instead though).

There's some ace hard stuff about if you go searching. Though areas 16-21 are the best accessible, Rah Plats plats area onwards.

Doctor crimp/pinch/multifit all are boss too in the earlier areas.

There's a dead nice looking line on a massive block in area 6/7 too, think it gets 8a/8a+ first ascent by Fred Nicole (I may well be totally wrong though). I'll check back with proper details from the guide when i get home.

You can buy the guide from the bar in Chironico. The bar is just past the parking area in the centre.

We got our guide from the bar at easter, and got the Gotthardo guide thrown in for a few extra Francs (I think all the places that sell the guide do this deal). Definitely a good, well produced guide.

No. We planned to but whenever the weather was bad in magic wood we assumed it would be bad at Gotthardo too, and when the sun shone at magic wood we made hay.

It was still under snow at Easter, when we got the guide. There doesn't seem to be a great deal there, but there looks like a few good problems in a nice setting, and without boobie trapped, steep, slippy wooded hillside, walk ins of death that you get at Tragic Wood.

It's fun doing that though- "what, that was only 6b? It felt nails", "wow, I flashed a 7a+!" etc.

It would be nice to get hold of a guide for Chironico/Gottardo other than the blocheart guide!

We got rained off quite badly for a few days this week gone, ended up driving to Murgtal which had a few nice looking lines but was also in minging dense rain clouds  :boohoo:

As a last resort and despite someone describing it as the worst crag they had ever been to, we checked out Motel. The walkin was steep and slippery, the landings were pretty horrific in places but it was saved by a couple of good problems, namely Whale Sandwich! I would probably go again if everywhere else in Switzerland was wet (you did well to escape home early Lorenzo! ;))

The point wasn't in the grades, the point was in the meaning

Do yourselves a favour and rip the pages containing the Motel chapter out of your guidebook. Eat them, shit them out and then send them to the Swiss government HQ with an affixed note demanding Motel be wiped from this planet.

Eventually they might get the point and banish this giant lump of coal to another dimension. It made the Breck look like Fontainebleau.

I thought the routes looked pretty good at Motel.  Honestly.

Bouldering looked gash, apart from that 7c thing Madams did.  I definitely did the right thing by heading back to Magic that day.  I would have expected you to enjoy making up shite eliminates in a damp wood above a carpark though.

True. It was marginally more fun than being trip whipping boy.

That Whale Sandwich would be an uber classic if it wasn't for the descent into hell if you fail on the crimp slap.

How dare you call my eliminates shit Ben! Just because you're not willing to spend more than 3 attempts on a problem of any grade! Invariably it would take you a lifetime to tick my masterpieces anyway.
