Good bouldering in Spain?
June 14, 2015, 08:50:19 pm
As per title, where might be good to go if you had a bit of time in July?

Ideally a location where you don't need transport and could pitch up on your own and just climb and meet people.

I would be very keen to meet Spanish climbers- if anyone has contacts who might tolerate a visiting Brit that would be amazing.

Hablo español - de hecho preferiría hablar español que inglés  :)

¡Gracias!

Albarracin too obvious?

Need to be high and cool though?

Santa Gadea sounds good, but I think you would need a car, and it doesn't sound busy.

As a starting point...

UKB Wiki : Spain

If you do find any more specific information then please add it to the Wiki so others benefit.

Hoyo Moros looks pretty amazing, but a looong walk-in.

La Pedriza probably ticks your boxes for proximity and finding other climbers but I've never been,  I think Fiend might have been there and may me able to provide more first hand experience.

Cool, thanks a lot for your answers, that's something to get my teeth into it (I hadn't thought of the wiki).

A key part of what I am looking for is contact with Spanish climbers, if anyone can help with this I would be hugely grateful (not so that I can cadge a doss I should add- I can pay my own way- but to meet and talk to).

My English mate Bea seems to find the facebook groups work okay for hooking up with locals - for finding partners, it's their version of UKC I guess. She's lived in Sevilla and BCN in the last couple of years and never seems stuck for anyone to climb with.

Cheers guys, is Pedriza not hot in July or does it get reasonable conditions despite the heat?

Thanks that's what I imagined. But it's near Madrid and speaking Spanish is more a priority than ticking problems tbh

Have you been to Albarracín SA Chris?

It snowed when I first went to Albarracin at Easter. But yeah, it will be boiling in July. However if it was a choice of boiling coarse granite or boiling smooth sandstone to climb on....

Sadly tons of places! Albarracin being one of them. Any time in Spain has been on a bolt clipping vibe.
