Skin conditioning
September 15, 2012, 08:31:55 pm
In the not too distant future, I'm going to be going away with work for quite a long time. Unfortunately, this move means I won't be able to get on rock at all during this time, but I have a trip planned for the two weeks of leave I will get. Has anyone got any clues as to how to keep skin conditioned for climbing on rock if I can't get close to it, at present I've got this massive fear of spending three days of my trip recovering skin for every day I get to climb. I'd prefer methods that don't require excessive amounts of time, as I'm likely to only have about 5 hours to myself every day, and that'll be spent sleeping, the rest of the time is my boss', but if that isn't possible, any help or advice would be massively appreciated.

Sandpaper your tips and then moisturise them daily ( Climb On cream and Elizabeth Arden 8hr work well for me).  And wear marigolds in the shower. Obv buy a Wedge to keep the finger strength up.

Sanding and moisturiser is the deal. No convinced rubber gloves in the shower are necessary.

How far do I take sanding, as far as nearly through the skin, or just take the top layer or two off?

just take a bit off - you're just trying to simulate having been climbing a bit, nothing drastic.

Understandable - it's a bit of a squeeze with Barrows in there as well

This thread is developing into a horrible distillation of wrongness.

Thinking about it Ron is almost certain to be a traditional bath-man rather than a showerer.

Not sure. I'll get it put on the agenda at the next Peak Area meet

50ml EA 8hr tube is £15.99 at Bodycare on The Moor - kept on the shelf behind the counter, so no chance of accidentally leaving wihout paying
