chipping - the bark type

seen this on planetsuntan:

what everyone think of stuff like this? Obviously its going to reduce the erosion, but if people go round unloading bags of bark chippings is this not going to cause trouble with landowners, walkers, peak park etc? or is this kinda work done officially? does anyone care?

I know theres been gravel under remergence for years and its great, but thats out of the way and off the main paths so unlikley to attract any attention.

lovely - i reckon it should have one of them tire-zipline things from gorilla warfare down to trackside to really finish it off. how cool would that be?!

seriously   it must have been done officially i reckon.

I think it's ok, coz bark chippings are easy on the eye, and if it stops the ground getting turned into a quagmire then I'm all for it. Dunno what it'll be like after 6 months though?

I guess it would be wise if landowners/Peak Park were consulted - is this just a private effort by some good-willled boulderer?

I think it must have been done officially as there is a lot of bark chippings there! Also, there are bark chippings on the approach to the gate as well, which suggests that it was done by someone from the PDNP.

it might be an anti erosion measure as the floor was/is pretty trashed round there - esp under trackside. you can see how much floor has gone from the grass wedge/step down underneath play hard n work hard.

don't reckon it would work/be appropriate everywhere though. works there cos it's so close to the road and the barked up stile area.

the bark on the approach path has been there for a few months now. My only concern is that it won't last very long  - i mean bark chippings are quite light. The gravel at remergence needs renewing every so often, and thats a lot heaver, and unlike trackside its not got walkers going through it all the time.

Perhaps relocating Guisecliff woods to the Peak in the form of chippings would do us all a favour.

i imagine it would be done officially...it seems to work pretty well at harrisons - pretty much the entire place is covered with bark chippings on top of hessian sacking. also provides a bit of a cushion when falling, which is always a good thing... :)

anything is better than the clay that is underneath IMO. In the winter your mat gets covered in brown shit. I've not seen it yet but should blend in well with the approach path.
Will it last.... time will tell

blimey, them's some 'stylish' orange tops those fellas are rocking there...are they about to 'tango' the geezer sitting down in the blue?

on a Trackside tip, anyone got an idea for the dyno from the pocket on the left hand side to the top, double?

I was jumping around like a House of Pain video on Thurs but couldn't do the fecker

Adenseloner has done it:

...though I'm guessing that's not strictly a double, is it?

not strictly, or indeed at all!

I've had a few pops at this before during warmup and hit the top but never hung it. Next time i'll pull the finger out and do it, or it seems dense will be schooling me in the old dyno stakes. my guess is about B8 ish?

yeah, it's a bit "right left" rather than full-on double. I held the top once but the swing ripped me off. Mate pimped it staight out though - got it on vid but me camcorder had started to chew DV tapes up which is kinda worrying  :?

Well done Planetfear, only 2 months late there...

http://www.ukclimbing.com/forums/t.php?t=79156

(What's that? Someone posting a sensible, positive post about bouldering on Rocktalk of all places? Surely not... Oh wait....it was me   )

P.S. I think it's fine, makes a bloody good landing.
