Email help
December 08, 2008, 08:14:53 pm
Any advice appreciated....

having finally upgraded to broadband, I'm having problems getting my new email to work. I've managed to persuade it to receive mail from the new server, but not send. And it won't send via the old server either. I just get an error message, 'relay not permitted' 'check the recipients and try again'. Any ideas? Have tried deleting the new account, the old one still won't work.

Along with losing my mobile last week this has thrust me back to 1995 with just a landline for company.

what type of mail server? Pop3? Exchange?
If pop3 theres normally a send mail (smtp) and one for reading (pop3)...
e.g. if its pop3.blogsinternet.com to revieve then its smpt.blogsinternet.com for the sendmail server..

Thanks for that, have checked these already, its receiving on a pop3 account and sending via an smtp. Pretty sure both are entered correctly.
Any ideas on what a relay is and why it wouldn't be permitted?

Might be a lack of authentication - you could try the "instructions" here and just substitute the email account given for the name of your email acount. I appreciate that they are somewhat log but they are the best I can find with 5 minutes of googling.

Cheers guys, deleting the old account entirely seems to have fixed it now.
