Downgrading mobile price plans
December 09, 2008, 12:27:34 pm
Is anybody aware of any potential loopholes in attempting to downgrade a priceplan with the 3 network? I've been told by a call centre operator that it isn't possible and have read that it is only during the end phase of your contract that you can do so.

Given that mobile phone companies are such deviant bastards, I wondered whether there was a way to fuck the system and take the power back? Where's Flava when you need him....

I've been trying to do this as I have a shitload of unused txts and minutes left every month. The problem is that they're clawing back the value of their N95 so it's no go. After much hassling of the call centre they said they'd do a fiver but like you they've said they won't reduce it significantly until a good half way through my contract.

They pretty much have you by the nuts.

I always thought that was fairly transparent.  When I was looking at getting my first contract phone (wanted an N95 after being impressed by friends ones) I had a good look round at various networks and settled on 3.  I then looked at their deals/handsets and could have got the same call-plan for less with a shitter phone, but wanted an N95 so bit the bullit, went for the lowest txt/calls package at the time (300 combined).......and still have tons left over each month  :P.

Is that because you can never get a signal?

 :agree:

It's pretty obvious that the total package will always be the same. So now with the way prices are coming down if you're not bothered about what handset you get you should be able to get pretty much unlimited usage for £15 a month, if you want one of the newest handsets you can get the same usage for £20-25 and if you want that plus a laptop or PS3 or something £30-35. It's obvious that you aren't actually getting anything free but they still look like pretty good deals in comparison to the £100+ a month people used to have to pay for similar usage. It's scary to think of how much money the phone companies have made through charging for something for years which they can still turn a profit from by giving away.

Also, you can see why they aren't gonna be too keen to reduce your monthly charge just because you don't use as many minutes.

Is that because you can never get a signal?

£25 a month isn't too bad in the scheme of things but could really do with saving a tenner a month. I presume I could flog the handset on the ebay for a few quid and I've got to the stage where I really don't give a shit about handsets anymore.

T'is an ongoing joke (all seperate threads, last one is where it started, I think.  Note however that with inflation and the credit crunch NOTHING has now risen from £2 to £2.50  :P).

P.S. - Did you sign up at the mixingbowl.org, registration is still open.

Slackers it was the first one of those posts (by Jim) that started it. The date sort of gives that away.  ;)

Tom how long do you have left on the contract?

::) I wasn't sure if the joke was older and I couldn't be arsed looking for older threads.

I only noticed because I had already searched for the thread where Jim called £2.50 nothing as I knew that was where the joke came from. I couldn't find it.  :wall:
