Camping at Magic Woods
July 23, 2008, 01:04:48 pm
Hi, I'm off to magic woods with a mate for a month and was just wondering about a few things. Firstly I take it there is probably an alright food shop in Andeer and a cash point. Is there also an internet cafe there or nearby? We are going without a car to save money and the bus into bellinzona costs £20 apparantly so thats not really possibly to do that often. Also does anyone have any top tips for recharging mobiles and digital camera?

bellinzona is nowhere near magic wood (60clicks).

andeer is the nearest for shops.

i will be there in a month, there is a town 30k away for shops, you can always hitch with other climbers, or chat the woman up in the local bar to charge your phone. If i see you there i will give you a lift down the shops

I've got one of these: http://www.solartechnology.co.uk/products/solar_chargers/freeloader.asp

It needs strong, direct sunshine to fully charge but should keep your phone battery (maybe your camera with the right line in) topped up if you use it sparingly.  Comes with a wide range of adapters to fit most phones.

I will also be in Magic in ten days time, but not for that long as we're on a bit of a road trip.  See you there.

Local bar has internet access if you ask nicely and will charge anything as long as you buy beer / coffee.  There is indeed a small shop and cash machine in Andeer.   Hitching places with other climbers is going to be your best option. See http://www.postbus.ch for bus times.

Have fun.

Yeah, the Gasthaus in Ausserferrera has a bar that's open until reasonably late most nights and also open at lunchtime for fat based snack food.

There's nothing wrong with the campsite, it's just Lee and Jim don't feel like they've been on holiday unless they've snapped a bed. It's like their calling card.

it's 2008 no man should be made to sleep on a bed of woodchips with 2 portaloo's for company.

fool has ulterior motives for using the campsite.

We've got an apartment for 2 weeks, but after that I might camp a little longer if necessary. I definitely won't miss naked washing in the ice cold river, although I will miss Danny scrubbing my back.

Is that North Wales bouldering legend Danny Cattell you're refering to? Or was it eyebrow-cheeked, potato grating ex-Gasthaus supremo and Terry Nutkins-a-like, Danny What's-his-face who gave you your daily rub down?

I must say, neither image is particularly pleasant.

Perhaps the honorable gentleman may find this thread of use (although obviously the grade range is very narrow and there may well be plenty of lower grade routes of interest).

there is 4 portaloo's now and a hut to do your cooking,
our tent leaked BADLY
so we had to run for cover (and ended up living there for 4 days) as it didnt stop raining.
getting water is a pain tho.
there is a internet cafe in the healthspa in andeer, it charges like 4 swiss franks but its good to check for the weather etc!  ill try get the name of the healthspa tho, but its opposite the bus stop.  (and is full of old people)
